Cutting one's self is a way of numbing the pain. In a sense they're bleeding their pain away.

But as I said in the OP. Pain reminds us we are alive. People who want to die, should not be trying to remind themselves that they are alive. Am I right?

By inflicting physical pain, a depressed person is blotting out their emotional pain.

This.  Although I'll never fully understand how that helps, they do it in hopes of one pain blotting out another.  Kinda how in painful situations at a doctor's office you'll squeeze your arm or leg tightly in hoping you'll focus on that pain rather than another.  But there has to be a better way of dealing with these things than doing as such.  Well I know there is a better way haha.

That is true...So if people like knowing they are alive, should they cut themselves?

lol, I guess!

Anyway, Suicidal people replace one pain with another...that is still reminding them that they are alive. Which could in turn cause even more emotional pain because it is a reminder that they have failed to kill themselves yet.

That may be true, but I am mainly referring to those who are suicidal.
