Forums - Sony - Why go with a PSP Go? Need shopping tips

I'm getting a PSP probably next month so I need some help with something. I know the PSP Go is 249.99 and brings internal memory of 16 GB and bluetooth, but no UMD slot. A friend of mine told me hes just gonna spend 170 on a psp 3000 and just insert a 16 GB card in it for memory and itll be the same knowing the psp go main difference is its design. I ask myself the same question as well. Whats so different about the 3000 and the go. I know the 3000 has a mic and i think a camera idk and Go has bluetooth and is smaller and slides to show the buttons. I dont know what would be the use of the bluetooth unless is for linking with PS3 but i can do it with my wifi. Also the fact that i have GTA vice city stories and Liberty city stories on UMD from my old and now sold PSP, how would i play it?

I wanna hear the VG community's opinion on this. Was my friend right? Should I just go for the 3000 to save myself money. Does the PSP Go features relevant? What do U think? I appreciate the help

There really is no reason to get a Go, listen to your friend and get the 3000

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

The PSP Go is a nice device, but if you are looking to use the camera a lot (for example for Invizimals), you will need an additional adapter if you want to play it with the PSP go.

The Minis you can play on the PSP Go are also available on the PSP 3000 so that's not an issue.

The main issue is this: if you are someone who keeps looking for the cheapest available option in games, don't go for the PSP Go. Seeing how everything is downloadable, Sony is controlling the flow, meaning that they decide the price and it'll be almost impossible to find games cheaper than what sony is putting out there (especially since you won't be able to play UMD versions). Only if stores go below the price on the "specific game vouchers", you'll be able to make a buck on a game. Don't forget that selling games again, is also a no no.

If you really want a PSP and you have money to burn and don't care about selling games again and want a nice, slick design, go for the psp go. If you want to be able to spend as much money on as many games as possible, go for the PSP 3000 (and accept its bulkiness compared to the psp go)

Bluetooth and in game XMB are cool features, but the games are the same, if you only want to play games then stick to PSP 3000. 16G memory stick is unnessecary though; a PSP3000 + a 16G memory stick would probabely cost you around the same as a PSPGo.

So what will happen to those who own a UMD and want a psp go? would they have to buy the game all over again digitally?

unfortunately yes, you can still sell your UMDs, and you can get 3 free games from Sony, but doesn't work in the US I think.

Thats true, but what sucks is that you have to pay full price for it again. Selling the game only gives u half that price probably. Imagine there were used-digital games lol. Beneficial but imposible i guess

well, digital games are either at full price or free of charge, you can take your chance if you know the right stuff

some old games on PSN are half the price, like GoW, but I can still get them cheaper from ebay, I can't afford DD at this time of my life, maybe I'll "upgrade" to it when I have a proper job.

True. Some old games are cheaper on the network, but that would probably make the buyer of the used game not buy the UMD or want me to bring the price down. Its a hassle either way. I wish there were a way to prove you bought it to sony and they'd let us download the same game digitally
