Fanboy, as opposed to a fan, is a derogatory term aimed at individuals who have a religious devotion to a company or a system, to the extent that reason, logic, and the ability to see quality on the part of a competing system, aren't around in any noticable qualities.
"Fanboy" certainly has derogatory connotations that "fan" hasn't.
But unless English grammar uses very different elements in grammatical analysis than Italian, it's not an adjective.
Just "fan" is fine... although you do get to make puns out of it...
