Forums - Microsoft - first anti-virus of ''MS'' ranking the third besh ..? wow..

DISCLAIMERS - PLEASE READ BEFORE REVIEWING RESULTS:

1. All antivirus binary analysis results are provided via www.virustotal.com.

2. Each binary is submitted for evaluation within 24hrs of our harvesting it live from the Internet. Each antivirus tool is only given this one attempt to detect the binary. Our intention is to evaluate how the antivirus tools are performing against the latest malware on the Internet, at least from the narrow vantage point of our honeynet.

3. Please be aware that most antivirus vendors WILL be able to detect the malware binaries listed in the missed set, usually within a few days. Therefore you should not view an antivirus tool's missed binaries list as a reflection of its current detection coverage. Rather, it is only a list of binaries that were missed at the time of our evaluation.

4. Our detection rates represent the TRUE POSITIVE detection rates. The results do not take into consideration the false positive rate of a given tool, and thus a tool that declares everything to be infected would appear to have the highest true positive percentage rate.

I use Avast (FREE!) and it performed better than McAfee, which cracks me up! It really shouldn't surprise anyone that MS did so well. Contrary to VGChartz popular opinion, they have a lot of really bright people that work for them.

bull list?
kaspersky, eset and bitdefender so low!?

I know, but.. sounds a bit strange. ''MICROSOFT MAKE GOOD ANTIVIRUS'' LOL,..

I find it hard to believe that NOD32 only hit 7%. Still, it's good to know that when I tell people that McAfee is shit I'm not exagerating.

they don't. The people that got me a laptop for a gift also gave me a year of windows live onecare.

heres my rundown of the experience:

It was constantly coming up with false positives (flagging legit items as threats). (very annoying).

The product line was discontinued and the software went without updates for the remaining 3 months of my term. (not getting what was paid for) (no current protection).

Incredibly slow (it took 5 hours to go through both of my drives.... (120 gb x 2)).

None of the bonus utilities that came with it worked.

+ a bunch of other nitpicky issues that are too small to go into detail about.

* note: they may have made it into a good product since pissing me off.

Microsoft is such a big cooperation that naturally the amount of people that isn't satisfied is big aswell, but that doesn't mean it's any bigger then at other companies in percentages. And people who are satisfied don't need to go to forums to complain, so naturally the Microsoft hate seems larger then it really is. This goes more for other forums but in a small way it also counts for VGChartz.

I'll tell you this much...that Windows Live One Care is not great, not great at all.

I use AVG
