Maybe you should read up on the tech before commenting.
Especially as now you're a programmer doing this sort of thing.
Basic guesturing in co-op? Seriously? For someone claiming to do research into this to post
"So Halo: Natal will recognize hand gestures in the shape of a pistol, and listen for you to say "pow pow!" or "zap!" to recognize when you fire?

That will be awesome to see. Awesome in a really funny way, I mean. Shooter games will become much more entertaining and light hearted.

Casual Halo... hmm."
Or
"They aren't going to be able to combine the two interfaces. The idea is that its a control-less interface, not an augmentation."

shows how little scope you have and how your research will never come to much with you at the helm. The fact you're trolling and making this up is immaterial.
They have shown it to you but you refuse to see it.
You have you're mind made up and nothings going to change it but keep telling us how much it wont work then saying that you hope it will prove you wrong so it looks like you're impartial.

Also at the Mike thing,
Lmfao.
Yes it is a British thing. We call everyone Mike and not Dave.

Your credibility is zero.

They have shown it to you but you refuse to see it. (um... they showed it to me?  I saw some demos that were utterly unimpressive))

(I didn't say it wouldn't work.  I said it seems unproven, and that I doubt MS' claims.  You take them at their word... good for you.. I guess)

I have no comeback for this utterly uninformed comeback with no actual backing, other than some 2D single-player tech demos in custom-lit environs which are easily accomplished with an average video camera.  You win... Mike.

Just for fun, let me ask you a question any vision expert.. and their dog, would know the answer to.

Name someone who didn't get a PhD at Carnegie Mellon, because their research wasn't "revolutionary enough", yet whose revolutionary work is the basis of a great number of modern vision techniques.  Careful not to wikipedia too awful much. ;)

EDIT: In 24 hours or so, I'll give you an additional clue, to help you jog your memory.

heck, I'll help ya early.

The concept he came up with is called a c$$$$$$$$$n o######r

Jog your memory?  Vision 101, bud.  ("bud" == American version of "Mike", I guess)

Ok here goes,

1. You don't need to read the actual research papers to know what it can or they hope it will do. There are plenty of testimonials of people that have used it and videos demonstrating it but you have already dismissed them because it suits you to do so.

2. I was joking. I know you're not a programmer or scientist.

3. Really. You don't get it?

4. I'm not the only one who said so.

5. I don't take them at their word but seeing as you seem to not like that why do you decide to take them at their word when it suits you? "They aren't going to be able to combine the two interfaces. The idea is that its a control-less interface, not an augmentation." Yes they said the idea is for controller-less but doesn't mean you can't use one.

lok at "Harmonix recently said it was looking into Natal for the next Rock Band. Will Guitar Hero follow suit?"

What's the PhD nonsence in here for? It sure as hell isn't you. Well done you know the name of a scientist. We all do. Chances are I know someone you don't.

Anyway about the Mike thing. It's not fair to let that continue so i'll explain it to you bud Before your post there is a post from Mike from Morgantown. I was referring to that. It has nothing to do with you.
Funny how you think everything is about you... /jk

That's too reasonable a comment.
It doesn't belong here.

Sorry.  Won't let it happen again.

Motion controls are for babies, wimps and mothers who think they're hip and anyone who says different is just plain dumb!

Better?

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Apparently you didn't know what I meant by "paper", which I find... fascinating.  You thought I meant "interview"?

The answer to the question, by the way, was: Irwin Sobel.  He came up with the Sobel operator -- a convolution operator (that's the hint) used in many modern day edge detection techniques.  As a matter of fact, image convolution / edge detection is probably the basis around which the Natal system works.  If its not, well then that would be both cool and revolutionary.  As I said before, I'd love to see the research paper.

I wouldn't recommend heading on over to Beyond3D and talking trash about graphics hardware for your next trick, Flash.

Much better unfortunately Reasonable.

@Pro
I din't think you meant interview. Wanting to read a research paper is one thing but saying it'll only do basic geusturing and will have difficulty recognising more than one person without markers unless the Pad is a marker (goes against your comment that the arent going to be able to combine the two) when there are videos and internviews, statements that say it has no problem recognising up to 4 people and can even know when someone walking in front of the person playing is a seperate entity and not the player. That when a woman started playing it recognised her as a female and changed the avatar to a female sort of proves you wrong. It finds it's own markers with an amazing amount of success.

For someone supposedly doing research into this you are very dismissive of this instead of excited. You have a very negative closed minded attitude. You also don't sound like you know what you're talking about and I find that odd for someone so deeply into this area.

Don't know what the PhD thing is about but I have heard the name. I'll take it as a friendly quiz from you. Now you've said about him I will be looking up about him as i'm always wanting to learn about people, new things etc.

My next trick? Talk trash about graphics in Beyond3d? I see what you're saying but you're the one who's come into a Natal thread and is trashing this not me? I'm sticking up for Natal. I think your comment should be aimed at yourself...

...Just like this comment of mine should be aimed at me.

If Natal can somehow play Halo Reach or any Halo game, then it would be beast.
