Mafia Round 7 - Sign-up Thread

Mafia is a classic party game and an off-shoot of Werewolf.  Each player in the game is assigned a role which is part of a team and they do their best to see that their team wins. 

The three teams are:  Townsfolk, Mafia1 (name TBD) and Mafia2 (also name TBD). 

The game is separated into Day and Night.  During the Day, the Townsfolk votes to (hopefully) lynch a Mafia member meanwhile the Mafia pretend to be Townsfolk and try to lynch innocent people.  During the night, each Mafia side chooses to kill one person and get themselves closer to winning.

Goals

• The Townsfolk win when all the Mafia are dead.
• The Mafia win when they outnumber (or equal) the Townsfolk and the other faction of Mafia is dead.

How to Sign-up & Play

• Post your name in the list below.
• When the "Mafia Round 6 - Game Thread" is made, you will receive a PM with your role.
• Post once in the game thread to "confirm" that you're still playing.
• After I post "Day 1 begin" you may begin accusing people and chatting.

Typical Roles

Townsfolk

• You win when all the Mafia are dead.
  
  
• During the day, you vote to lynch someone. 
  
  • You want to lynch Mafia so you win the game.
  • You don't want to be lynched because you can't win if you're dead (though your team can...).
    
    
• During the night, you sleep peacefully and, depending on the mafia, sometimes with the fish.

Sheriff/Cop

• You win when all the Mafia are dead.
  
  
• During the day, you vote to lynch someone.
  • You want to lynch Mafia so you win the game.
  • You don't want to be lynched because you can't win if you're dead (though your team can...).
    
    
• During the night, you choose someone to investigate by sending me a PM.
  • If my response is "guilty" then the person is Mafia.
  • If my response is "innocent" then the person is not Mafia.

Doctor

• You win when all the Mafia are dead.
  
  
• During the day, you vote to lynch someone.
  
  • You want to lynch Mafia so you win the game.
  • You don't want to be lynched because you can't win if you're dead (though your team can...).
    
    
• During the night, you choose someone to protect by sending me a PM.
  • If the Mafia choose the same person you do, the person lives.
  • If the Mafia choose someone else, you fail as a Doctor (the person dies).

Mafia

• You win when you outnumber or make up half the living players.
  
  
• During the day, you vote to lynch someone.
  • You want to lynch someone who is not Mafia so you win the game.
  • You don't want to be lynched because you can't win if you're dead (though your team can...).
    
    
• During the night, you talk with your fellow Mafia and choose someone to murder by sending me a PM.
  • If the Doctor is protecting your target, you fail to kill them and waste a night.
  • If the Doctor is not protecting your target, they die... in painfully creative ways.

Misc. Rules

• Do not talk about the game outside of the game thread unless your role allows it (i.e. Mafia).
• Do not post your role PM.
• Do not talk (post) after night falls.
• Do not talk after you've been killed, lynched, or otherwise discombobulated.
• If you do not PM me with your night action within a reasonable time period, I will randomly decide it for you.
• Don't take the game too seriously, remember it's all just for fun.

Things to consider about this round in particular

As you know, this round will be a big one. I've wanted to give a try with a game with two sides of mafia. For that, we'll need at least 20 players (I'm thinking around 25). Yet, there's one requisite that I ask every signee to consider. Since there's a lot of people participating, it's natural that phases will be longer than usual. For days, normally it would be no problem, since they're very active, but on night it can get boring. So, please only sign up if you know that you can dedicate some time for the game. At least 1 minute to send a PM during the night for your night role, I'd like people to be active during days, but if they're not, the game itself will take care of that.

I won't hesitate using the modkill or replacing people (using backups) that are lurkers. I won't tolerate specially people that delay the night phase. Thus, I accept night actions to be PMed during the previous day phase, as it helps to speed the game.

So, only sign up if you know you won't "lurk"

I'm still deciding the roles, I wanna see how many people sign up for that. Also, if someone can come up with names for each mafia side, it would be greatly appreciated

Yeah, I know. It's an experiment. It could turn out to be the best mafia game ever, or maybe people will hate me forever...we'll have to see. I hope it turns out good

I think you should consider making it one mafia team, maybe with mafia special characters. But if you insist on 2 mafia teams, why not go with something like "Italian" and "Russian"?

Or you could do "mafia vs. werewolves vs. town". That could be really crazy, especially if there were mafia-specific detectors (cops) and werewolf-specific detectors (seers) etc.

Also, I'm a fan of Masons. They simply are townsfolk who know the names of fellow Masons, making a small "safe" clique.

A Werewolf pro-town role I like is the Hunter -- who, if night-killed, may kill one person of its choice.   Another is the Witch, who gets 1 night-kill and 1 night-save (not targeted protection but "oops you didn't kill him after all") per game.

I doubt the game would start before Sunday. I could keep you as a reserve role, and if you come back before it starts move you up. Since I know you're an active player, it's in my interest to see you in the game
