KH also features FF characters, but it's considered a separate franchise. Square probably consider both Dissidia and Nier 'key' new franchises. They want to make a breakthrough in the west with Nier, not sure that's going to pan as planned.

Also. But its not a FF game, doesn't have FF in the name, the main characters are original and Disney takes a big part in this game.
Dissidia is a fighting game with FF in its name, with all the main FF characters and villains, all the locations, items, spells, soundtrack and more.

I hope so. I'm addicted to Arkham Asylum
We'll see - I wouldn't hold my breath for new, 'Chrono Trigger' style franchises.
Add Batman to the 'key' franchises I've mentioned, and you're set.
Well if Nier is any good, I don't care if thats it.
since SE games dont sell unless they are FF or DQ, and since SE loves to milk thoses franchises to the maximum, then i predict that they are doing these ORIGINAL games:
- FINAL QUEST: a new RPG franchise centering around orphaned heroes and crystales :)
- DRAGON FANTASY: a new RPG franchise centering around Nostalgic gameplay, nostalgic music, travelling, and dragons :)
Bottom Line,, They will forever milk FF and DQ :)
| Soriku said: KH is a completely different game and has its own original characters. Dissidia has all FF characters. There's a reason why KH is just called KH and not KH: FF and Dissidia is Dissidia: FF. |
But what if Dissidia is the name of the franchise, and the FF part was just for that specific title??? they could have a Dissidia: Dragon Quest, a Dissidia: Kingdom Hearts, Dissidia: Star Ocean, Dissidia: Valkyrie Profile, etc.
The thing is, Dissidia: KH is the only one that would sell big, Dissidia: DQ would sell massive in Japan, but unless Nintendo pulls a Sony-FF strategy, it would be moderate in the West. The other ones would sell moderate or bad.

Chrono, Mana, Star Ocean, Parasite Eve and SaGa would like a word with you. Xenogears did pretty good as well. I'll put Super Mario RPG in as well, but we all know Mario helped that a lot :D
All of them sold at least 1 million (Chrono and Mana even got to 2, with PE really close as well). But if you count everything under 2.5m as "don't sell", then you're right.
@ Son1X, im talking nowadays, you're talking about the golden age of SE where almost every game sold well cause Square used to Create Gems
I want a new TWEWY too. Sho Minamimoto still has so many catchphrases to offer the world.
I wish SE wasn't so zeta slow at releasing these games! >_
