XD, that study is fail. They forgot to factor in the whole assaults are less likely to happen when more people carry guns because if you are a bad guy, and you don't know how many people may be packing heat, or who, you may rethink your assault. This is why conceal and carry is such a beautiful thing.

Glad Im super powerful and dont fear guns, I pity the weaklings that need them to feel safe in their own homes.

The study is so stupid.

A couple of years ago one of my neighbors had their house broken into. The robber only had like a butcher knife. My then saw him and then shot him in the chest with a shotgun. I am not sure how this factors in with the study I just thought it was funny.

I mean who robs houses in the country with a knife? I mean everyone here owns a gun. I have two in my bedroom

As the recent Darrion Albert murder video demonstrates, and absence of guns doesn't prevent people from committing violence and it doesn’t protect innocent bystanders ...

Guns are not the problem, the people who use them to commit violent acts are the problem.

Im curious, who here has guns and how many? and if they know how to use them.

I dont have any, and never have used one in my life, more than that, besides the ones that policemen have, I havent seen one in real life.

The only time a guy attacked me and my friends with a knife we kicked his ass.

Anyway, I think its safer to not have a gun if you dont know how to use it, that raises the chances that the other guy would shoot you and you have no skill to back it up, you are giving them another gun(which here is a problem because having guns in my country isnt as easy) and risking your life.

I think it shouldnt be so easy to get a gun, a lot of crazy people and lame old guys would have them making streets more dangerous and risking their own lives, now, I trust in the cops, but I cant speak of the US since I dont know how life is there(I lived 2 years but I was a kid and I have gone there a couple times after that).

@Pastro

My family owns 5 guns. 2 rifles,2 shotguns, and 1 pistol(we are going for a second pistol), my dad and I both took classes and have been hunting several times. I also participated in my (home)school's hunter safety team. And I have been to state twice in the last three years

Edit: I also own two bows

^Ditto I also took hunters safety and took a class on firearms in college. However I do not own any guns, but I know how to use em.

I find it hard to believe that a society with more guns is safer than the ones with less, for me, only the military and policemen should carry them, people should be allowed to use them if they have passed psicological exams and actually know how to use them. Yeah, delincuents may have them, but if their are hard to get, they will surely have less guns that if you can get them in supermarkets, and there is always the police to fight them, not civilians.

Anyway, I think that more people carrying guns is a sign of a bad made society rather than a healthy one, the need to carry them shows insecurity in the people, an insecurity that taken to limits may be harmful.

well, guns are illegal here in the UK, so I dont ever worry about people trying to shoot me, only people I know who can use them are the police

Well depending on your perspective on things some have issues placing their securities in others in your case you are ok with putting your securities in the government (as you said cops and military). However our constitution allows us to bear arms for protection against things other than criminals and maniacs.
