Forums - Sony - SONY did the right think with GT5

@Dgc1808
If what justinian said is true, which maybe it is maybe it isn't, that could be because SONY asked them to integrate the PS Eye functionality into the game and that's what was only 65% done. I'm pretty sure they were close to a finished product, and I don't believe for a second that the game as a whole was 65% done. Anyone who does is a fool. You don't work on a game for that many years only to get 65% of it finished, then expect to complete the last 35% in a mere 6 months. Some particular phase of the game was only 65% done, and I'm pretty sure it's not a make-or-break phase either.

Unless you're in Japan there should be no conflicts over getting GOW3 and GT5 at the same time. I will be shocked if GT5 is actually released world wide in March next year.

I think if it had released this holiday the PS3 would have gone bananas, moreso then it likely will anyways. They'll get a nice boost in Japan in March and then another one in May-July or whenever it gets released world wide, so it'll probably work out in the end.

No development cycle that takes this long can be considered a good thing. The development took to long and hence burned more money and will ultimately cost them sales. You can spin it but they needed to release in the peak season for maximum sales.

And why on earth wouldn't they release it in all territories at the same time?  Is that something they regularly do?  I have to say I think you're wrong, even if it's in their history.  As long as this game has taken, they'll make sure its a simultaneous worldwide release.

Actually, it is.

I think the PS3 might be on the verge of selling out during the holidays even though they have been producing consoles at double the rate of last holiday's sales rate.  In that case, GT5 might not be able to move additional consoles...because they're nearly going to sell out anyway.

By releasing GT5 in March, Sony can let people buy consoles and a game or two during the holidays, get some more money, then buy GT5.  Plus, more consoles will have been produced by then and Sony will be able to fully accomodate the potential spike in sales accompanying GT5.

Up until a month ago I said that Sony needed GT5 this holiday and I'd prefer to see a $349 PS3 + GT5 to a $299 PS3 with no GT5.  The former would still help Sony's bottom line more, but in terms of console unit sales, Sony is fine delaying GT5 because the slim is going to sell gangbusters even without it.
