Forums - Gaming - Nokia N900 runs SNES games, supports Wii mote and TV out.

Good example how flexible Nokias new Linux bases platform Maemo 5 is. Do you think that Nokia N900 or maybe some future Nokia Maemo release can compete against IPhone and current handheld consoles as gaming platform? What emulator would you like to see on N900?

Is that Samir?

I had the wiirider app on my N95 so using the wiimote to control Snes games could be fun.

I'm considering buying this beauty, unfortunately my Motorola died on me yesterday (and during an important meeting as well).

I had a NES and a Genesis/Mega Drive emulator on my Sony Ericsson 2 years ago...

n900 its a beauty.

well considering nokia first attempt touchscreen phones were successs 5800 10 million very fast (around a year) outperforming apple iphones. first year.

n97 selling millions in just 2 months in a 500$ price point.

n900 will be huge XD.

Could you play them while taking a dump?

My first Iphone had SNES Genesis GB(C) GBA even a PS1 EMU with TV cable that was 2 years ago and I think that many S60 Driven Nokias had Emus before on it one i can remember is this EMu for Monkey Island Games SCUMMVM or something like that.

Everything you mentioned was possible a long time before on Nokia and a Various Type of Phones. Since Symbian S60 came out a lot of utilitys like that were possible. The thing what realy surprises me is that it uses Linux in favor of Symbian thats the Main Platform and the market leader for mobile Phones and it belongs 30% to Nokia so why are they using Linux. It wont win against the Iphone. I was a Nokia Fan almost the whole mobile Phone History my First nokia was 2110 1998 since that time I bought every year the newest model I spend maybe 10K for Nokia. But then came the Iphone and It was a revolution It was weaker in every point then my N95 but it had Multi Touch Screen the Screen was brilliant and the Design perfect. Then I switched to Apple I never bought a Nokia again they were not ablo to replicate the Multitouch Screen. Nothing changed they have the same old Touchscreens as 7 years ago. Nokia wont be the gaming Leader in the mobile market its over. This new Features are years old and can be done on older Nokias with S60 3 too.

They could compete if they make something like the MultiTouchScreen noone likes Copycats but thats one of the reasons why the Iphone is so successful.

Point in this is is prove how easy it's to develop programs to Linux based Maemo 5, which N900 uses. N900 isn't on the market yet and first inside Nokia test mobiles are been out probably 6 - 10 months and it already have quite lot of different applications.

Real difference what it comes with N900 compared to Symbian phones is that SW developing is 10 times more easier and same code can be reused much easier between phone models. Also with Maemo 5 you can have some very important features like multi threading in your code and you don't need to strucle slownes of Symbian and it's 40 milloin lines of code (Yes. Symbian has as much code lines as Windows XP. Thats why all Symbian phones are so damn slow).

N900 comes with ARM Cortex-A8 CPU, which is same as in Apple iPhone 3GS and it also have hardware graphics acceleration and 256MB RAM.
