Forums - Microsoft - Achievments are one of the best moves Microsoft has ever made.

I too am an achievement whore. I really dig the way some developers made achievements based on playing a game in a certain manner, thus effectively forcing achievement hunters to play the game in a manner of which the game developer wants you to. I know too often some games I can be a little too halo-esque gung ho, but some games with achievements that are based on stealth etc encourage me to play another type of game within the same games (see ODST achievment for not firing a shot in a level). Anyways, yes, achievements FTW >:)

since achievements are fathers of the trophies and I only have PS3 just wanna say is so cool to get in ur profile a proof a reminder that u totally finished that game. and a nice award.

F.U. Fun University.

The best move Microsoft has done when it comes to consoles is supporting online functionality, if it was up to the other two then it wouldn't have happened so soon. After that comes their support of new genres such as the FPS, WRPG and recently RTS on consoles. And after that comes the gamerscore. Between all of that I think Microsoft has earned their place in the console market.

I think it really depends on the game. If the game is really good I will play it that bit more to get all I can from it. But if a game just flat out sucks it's not worth it just for a higher score.

So it does add replay value to some games but not all IMO.

I'm pretty baffled by how achievements (and later trophies) have changed the landscape. My friend at work let me borrow the first Motorstorm when I got my PS3 Slim and I don't even want to play it because it DOESN'T support trophies. I almost get a "what's the point" feeling about a game if it has no achievements or trophies. That's kind of sad and hard to admit, but it's true.

I think it's because in the past you would finish a game, and the only thing you could really do was brag to all your friends about how you just beat so and so game. Now you can brag to your friends AND they can look at your achievements/trophies in the game and see exactly how you did compared to how they did. Another example: My brother and I are always neck and neck on achievement points, so when one of us passes the other, we always make it a point to call and talk trash.

It just makes things more fun, even though it's all pretty meaningless in the end.

I wish they would do more achievements like they did in Mass Effect.  Unlocking of an achievement granted you new bonuses/abilities (i.e - +5% xp per kill, etc...) on your next play through.  Less annoying Fetch achievements like "Find 100 flags" *coughAssassin's Creedcough* would be nice also :P

Ha!  Agreed.  Most of the achievements in Assassin's Creed were extremely easy to get (I think I scored like 775 in that game without even trying very hard), and I think 95 percent of the ones I didn't get were all the flag ones.  Forget it.  Without a strategy guide you'll never find all those.

Yeah, it's always nice getting that pop up for more gamerscore. If they're smart, they will extend our gamerscores to the next console.

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"
