Forums - Sony - PS3 price cuts arn't the answer: what Sony should do instead

Dodece makes several excellent points.

Also consider the effect of 3rd party companies. They've invested considerable time and money now developing for the PS3, ultimately they'd port to 360 to recoop cost, but they'd still lose a lot of invested money because they'd never reach the expected install base on PS3. They'd be less willing to develop for Sony in future.

Sega did this (let a console 'die') with the 32x (I believe, someone correct me if I'm wrong) to similar results.

a $99 ps2 with 10 games? core psp far cheaper than a ds? "realistically", put down the crack pipe.

qouldn't they lose as much moeny by cutting the PSP by $100 as they would by cutting the PS3 $100? And by taking away the media functions in the $70 model, people would be forced to buy games in order to use it...

anyway yah I see what your saying... it would only be a good move for Sony if they were planning on leaving the market after this gen. So I guess they are not

Depends on the production costs of the PSP and PS3 compared to one another and sales post-cut.
