Forums - Sony - PS3 price cuts arn't the answer: what Sony should do instead

The most the $100 price cut for PS3 can do is 100k extra in japan for one week.

Just think... what would happen if Sony gave the PSP an $100 price cut tommroow? What if daxter pack went down to $100, and the black PSP at $70? How would it sell? I think Sony should let PS3 die this gen, and focus on PSP/ride out PS2...

...

realistically

Sony could introudce a "core" PSP fro 69.99 and a (media) Player Only PSP for 119.99, and drop the price of the regualr psp from $170 to $150

Sony could drop the Price of the PS2, and offer an $100 games deluxe pack! That comes with 10 greatest hits games. Just the standalone system could retail for $50  Then they could start development on PS2 games once again, and ride out this gen. Next fall, they could do the Wii remote backwards (have the bar recive a signal) and copy the Wii remote... And have a $75 PS2 bundle with Play! Remote and Playstation sports. The pherial would bne heavily supported, but noraml PS2 games could also be made.

It would completly undercut the Wii's success, and give sony a good shot at winning this gen. What do you all think?

Creative thinking my freind. I take no drugs.

The pricecuts in europe happend last week right? And japan is supposedly soon, maybe even today idk, but we have no idea how it will effect the sales. I still think the playstation brand is still strong, though tarnished a bit from a high price and lack of exclusive games. But sony's doing what they can to get the price lower.

I seriously think people on this board want sony to fail. I dont understand that logic at all.

While andrewpeirce's suggestion is ridiculous, it would probably have a higher chance of success than their current efforts with the PS3.

no magic mushrooms

I'm not sure you can split the PSP like that and make such cheap versions of it, the components in it are not seperate for media and gaming functions.

Also the PSP has been a similar price as the DS for a while no in Japan (i think...anyone have more proof?)

From an "image" standpoint its bad, but the Playstion division would lose (may be make?) Syon less Money then their current path...

Let the ps3 die?!?!?!? are you insane?!?!?!? do you know how much money they have lost? if they let it die now they probably won't be able to make that money back agian for quite some time

xbox 360, ps2 are my consoles

end of generation predictions: wii 106 million Xbox 360 59 million PS3 57 million

Sorry man cant agree with you on that one at all. I think the PSP is already a good price and SONY is already losing money on it.

If this happens Sony would lose the format war. They can not afford to let that happen. Why else do you think they are letting SCE take so many losses? It was all planned to help bring Blu-Ray to victory over HD DVD.

Sure, they weren't expecting to be selling THIS badly, but a majority of the losses they've taken on the ps3 were premeditated, because the royalties Sony will receive on Blu-Ray technology patents will easily make up for the losses over time.
