Here's a snippet from the latest Bungie Weekly Update. Fan questions followed by Bungie answers.

Time for Reach info?
Reaching for Answers writes: Question about Reach answers. That's kind of like a riddle...

So, ODST is out and it's great. You guys have been reluctant to give us info on Reach considering you've been in all out "ODST-mode," but the time has come and gone! When can we start expecting Reach information to start trickling out?

If that time is now (hopefully), will there be Elites as enemies? I know that many fans miss fighting the most formidable creatures in the known universe.

That time is not now. But it will be time soon. Sooner than some of you may think and not nearly soon enough for some others. And yeah, this is the part of the update where we remind you that your Halo 3: ODST disc serves as your invitation to the Halo: Reach Xbox LIVE multiplayer beta coming online in 2010.

January 2010 is my guess. Can't wait!

I have a feeling Bungie will have a very impressive engine for Reach. Some people may hope that Reach goes for realism, but I REALLY HOPE Bungie dont cash in on the graphics side to try and look more real than KZ2 say. They can do better graphics, but keep the art style. Halo isn't supposed to have realistic graphics, but it is supposed to have a suedo sci fi make believe visual feel.

Halo 3's engine is massively underated, and frowned upon by many that have only ever seen screenshots. But in fact the engine is very impressive. Playing ODST recently says it all. Just the pure amount of wow they do with draw distance and enemies on screen shows where their priorities lie.

Reach I believe will be more detailed scenery, more enemies and better effects. If it does that, it will be the best FPS engine. Just please dont try and look real.

Could not have said it better. After ODST they definately can keep the art style and make the graphics look better.

in after selnor needs to attempt to prove that the xbox 360 has better visuals than any other gaming console.

that being said, the halo 3 engine is highly under rated. I was expecting it to look a lot worse when I played it. The ending was kinda silly, they had just a ship flying over a big piece of concept art, I'm not really sure why they did that, but that's fine, it looked good.

Draw distance, lighting nad performance are done really well. I liked i a lot.But lets not over do it. Whatever Rare's engine is called it far far out does halo 3s (Well, the rare engine has some of the most horrible performance ever seen, but visual wise its actually a stunner.)

:)

I wasn't trying to say that Halo 3 engine is the best, but like you said it's underated. What it's designed to do it does so right. We know Reach has a new engine, obviously that means an improvement. ODST is a 2 year old engine, and I have to say it does not look out of place in 2009. It looks great. Reach HOPEFULLY doesn't look realsitic but enhances in every way. Reach's engine I belive will be a force to be reckoned with, Bungie are great developers.

a MMO...hmmm...maybe.  Well, we all know they passed on what looked to be a MMORPG, but maybe a MMO FPS...that would have some potential.  You can play as Covenant or Human.

I want the same art style too... not too much emphasis on "realism" please.

and please god not a mmo

I dunno...a FPS MMO wouldn't be al that bad...I don't think M$ would risk the gravvy train, since Halo Reach could be a $300 million revenue generating machine, but some MMO like aspects might work...especially if it's free.

“Imagine living in a commune where everyone loves what they do and does their all for the community, but instead of growing hemp and playing hacky sack, you are making kick ass video games and playing hacky sack.” This was Lead Game Designer Christian Allen’s answer when asked what it was like to work at Bungie – and when he personally referred to Halo: Reach as “Super-Secret Next Project”.

After leaving Bungie recently, he stated on his blog:

“I am supremely confident that the crew at Bungie will continue to kick ass on Halo: Reach. It was an honor to work on a great title with some of the most talented folks in the industry; Reach will be fucking awesome.”

Allen also worked at Red Storm Entertainment as Lead Multiplayer Designer on Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, a critical and commercial success that released first on the Xbox 360 and later for PC, PS2 and Xbox. He’s currently working as Lead Designer at WB Games on an “unannounced, AAA game title”.

I am no expert in the Halo story line or time line, so I am probably wrong, but my assumption while watching it was that it was directly before the start of Halo 3, with Sgt. Johnson being on the ship coming in to find chief, especially since spoilers:

you then see Johnson for the only time in the game following the credits.

Not true, I see him in my Firefight lobby everyday  That's not cannon to the story though. And *SPOILERS* people. Some players on the site have probably not completed or bought it yet.
