One small change ( which shoudn't change the outcome but will make the race a lot closer).
ioi had the Wii slightly outselling the PS3 starting last week and it doesn't look like it is shaping to be this way.
It looks like the PS3 will outsell the Wii until NSMBWii releases.

The PS3 should have a 140k lead or so at that time...

From the other thread, PS3 is leading by about 6K YTD. Are you saying PS3 will outsell Wii in November by 134K?

I'm saying right now the PS3 is closer to 5 millions than the Wii is from 10 millions.

BY the time NSMBWii releases the PS3 might be 130 or 140k closer.

PS3 : 3.76 millions units, 1.24 millions to go.

Wii : 8.67 millions, 1.33millions to go

And that's with last week VGChartz disagreeing with the rest of the tracking firms..

So NSMB Wii can't sell more than 140K Wiis?

NSMBWii will close the gap and probably put the Wii ahead  but it won't be enough to break the 10 mill and then FFXIII comes.

Anyway this is kind of a moot discussion, I don't think either of the console will break their milestone ( 10 mil for Wii, 5 mil for PS3) before March 2010 or so...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

The spike this week is for WE2010 (I misspoke earlier), which also has a console bundle.  Or do you mean last week?

I was thinking that Wii should hit 10 million first and it would be a no brainer. However, I'm having second thoughts. There's pent up demand for PS3 and Wii is kind of hitting some saturation so they're selling equally now. There's also FF13 and GT5 coming up in which will propel sales for PS3. The price cut for Wii helps but I think it's offset with the upcoming PS3 software release. Now I'm not so sure who'll hit their mark first. It'll be much closer than I originally thought.

That being said, don't you think that NSMBWill will have a more lasting effect than FFXIII?

FFXIII will boost hardware sales for 2 weeks and then they will go back to normal.

NSMBWii effect will be more insidious as the effect will be on going and hard to quantity...

I don't think we will really know how much of a boost NSMBWii gives until sales go back to normal level post holydays.

Right now the consoles will enter the holydays with the PS3 slightly outselling the Wii by a few ks in average.

Lets see how they do toward the end of January and who has the edge..

Right now I still think the Wii will win the race sometime in March. The PS3 only hope is to stay close and drag this until GT5 release....

Okay, here at last is this week's update.  I've put off doing it because VGC numbers for PS3 are quite a bit off of MC, Famitsu and Dengeki and I decided to wait at least until I had a day off from work (i.e. today) in case there was an adjustment.  MC's numbers are closest (29,977) but this is still more than 5000 units above the VGC numbers.

Speaking of adjustments... In the Oct 10 update, I said that it was the first week that the Wii outsold PS3 since the start of the race.  With adjustments, VGC now shows PS3 with a tiny lead (64 units!) that week.  So this week is the first week that Wii has outsold PS3.  For now anyway...

lol, okay that makes sense. :)

It was a strong week for PS3 releases, even if both games are multiplatform.  Wii's only real standout was SRT Neo, and it looks kinda shitty compared to the main games.

My vote: PS3.
Reason: Final Fantasy XIII.
