Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii 10 mln. or PS3 5 mln. in Japan. Who first?

I may have missed it but which source is going to be used for this bet? VGchartz numbers fall right in line with ioi's prediction for this week while the other trackers favor Zorro. Did you guys agree on which one will be used, as I've seen all 4 Japanese companies numbers posted here. If it's a close race it could make a difference.

Why would they use any numbers except VGC?

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

There are several reasons, one may be to negate bias claims since ioi runs this site and posts the numbers, since a lot of people are already calling him biased perhaps he said he'd use another source. Another is that the other sources are said to be more accurate by the 3 primary gaming companies, making them (mainly Media Create) a better source for a bet. Third is because both Zorro and ioi are using numbers from all 4 main sources.

^Saying ioi is biased is ridiculous, and could get you in trouble saying he is, he isn't biased, its not in his best interest to be biased

If you think the others are more accurate, then why are you on VGC? There are plenty of other boards that use other figures, this is VGC

They may look at the other numbers, but I'm sure they are using VGC numbers in deciding who is right

I'm going to say PS3 because I feel the first Final Fantasy of the gen will move more consoles than the third Mario.

reread. I didn't call ioi biased. I do think Media Create is more accurate than VGchartz with Japan sales but that doesn't mean I can't use both numbers, I think VGchartz generally does a great job of tracking numbers in Japan but I see the site for it's potential rather than thinking it's the definitive source for numbers now. However if VGchartz and the other two trackers were around the same and Media Create was way off I'd go with the majority, since they're all tracking a few different areas. So I have just as much right to be here as anyone, even if I think another source may be more accurate.

@Edouble24: I've been posting updates (sporadically... sorry) and use VGC numbers. This is after all VGChartz.com and this thread is really about cumulative sales (10m vs 5m) which aren't as readily available from other sources.

Last week I didn't do an update because by the time I could get around to it, the new numbers were nearly due. This week I'm holding off because VGC's PS3 count is 5k off of mc and even worse for famitsu and dengeki. Something doesn't seem quite right.

Which is why I asked. If you're going to use one source, it's never going to be the same as the others 100 percent of the time, so if something like this week happens you just have to stick with the primary source being used for this little competition. Honestly I figured they'd be using Media Create but VGchartz is fine. They had PS3 higher than Media Create did a few weeks back by a few thousand so it will even out in the end I'm sure.

Edit-Looking back it seems like ioi did change some older numbers, as I'm sure VGchartz had Wii over PS3 the second week of the Wii's price drop and now it's not.

i have a thread dedicated to this here.

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=88468

I am using VGC, firstly cuz we r discussin gon vgc n it doesnt seem right to use some other numbers n secondly n more importantly the admins of VGC r not afraid to adjust numbers if they r wrong.. after all they r not covering 100% market.. so i like it that they update number when some new information from reliable source is available.. So i dont think this difference will remain when the next week numbers will be published.. n correct adjustment will be made.

You haven't updated your numbers in that thread
