Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 360 Sales Charts & Discussion: October 13th (FPS/Sports ownage)

Good analysis stickball. I wouldn't worry about the Halo 3 sales. It was released pretty early in the 360's life considering when Halo 2 was released for the Xbox and still sold almost as much week 1. Yeah, it's dropping fast but it's the kind of game that will never die. You also have to remember that the 360, unlike the Xbox, has a very diverse library of games and appeals to more than just the FPS and sports gamers. Obviously that's still the predominant group, but the games that don't fit into those categories are building up, and so are the gamers who play those games.

Great to see Orange Box do well! More people need to play these awesome Valve games. I hope it does great on the PS3 too.

W29 do you mean it's closing in on Pokemon in America or worldwide? It certainly will pass Pokemon in America (at least in the short term), but asking it to pass even Pokemon's current numbers (over 10 mil) worldwide is a lot.

Anyway, good to see the 360 retain very good software sales. Hopefully the Wii and PS3 pick up on the software sales side during the holidays.

This is one of my favorite regular threads on vgchartz, I look forward to it almost as much as the weekly American numbers.

Can you do more than just the top 10 for America (at least for the weekly sales and % drop, if the extra analysis would be too much work), like maybe a top 15? For example, this week that would encompass some interesting games like Gears of War, Guitar Hero II, BioShock and Rainbow Six: Vegas.

And where is the red/green colored text this time?

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Great legs for Skate but terrible deception for PGR4... :(

Zones : I still don't understand all the love for Blizzard, what was the last game they developed worth playing?

Its a shame that PGR4 is doing so poorly. It really is one of the best racing games (and series) on the market and really it should be doing better.

Poor 360.

The FPS/Sports stigma is getting harder and harder to shake off.

Oh noes, How can the 360 succeed with lots of the best selling games?!

Picko - maybe due to PGR3s poor sales could explain MS dropping Bizzare as a first party company.

Having said that, PGR4 had a great debut in the UK charts @ #1 for individual numbers, and beat Halo3's 3rd week. Therefore, sales in PAL territories should be good with Christmas coming oh-so soon.

Doing a top-15 won't be a problem.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Bizzare wasn't a first party company for microsoft. They are just the company Microsoft chose to develop it's PGR series. Bizzare already had Geometry wars coming out for Wii and DS and are prepping another game called The Club that is for Pc/ps3/360.

Very interesting data, the biggest surprise for me is the lackluster performance of PGR4 and the great sales of Orange box.

Great start for the Orange Box. I wonder how it'll be next week? (% drop).  I'm still surprised at how lackluster PGR4 is doing. It looked pretty decent from the trailers. I haven't had a chance to try the demo yet.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Beautiful Katamari will do on next weeks edition. The lower price should help sales right? I just got my copy today (JP release was on the 10/18 :( , but free Cell Phone strap FTW! :D )

Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

I expect Orange Box to drop big next week. Halo will hold strong...

PGR4 hopefully, will increase sales a bit and constantly stick around... Right now it looks like Microsoft's move to drop Bizarre from PGR was a good one. But to be honest there are so many racing titles for 360 that I think the genre is flooded.

Skate is pretty much stuck to the wall in the mid-30's... Who would have thought it would go there so quickly and just stick around for week after week?

I think Ace of Combat 6 will do really well in Japan.
