Err these are Halo Wars CGI renders?

Looks like it's from a cutscene that never made it into the game set in the Arcadia city level.

You can see copyright 2008 in the bottem left corner.

Yep, that is a possibility.

EDIT:  But that is forerunner architecture and what appears to be humans walking around it.  Not sure that fits in well with the Halo Wars storyline.

Forerunners are humans. But an ancient race of humans that destroyed themselves when activating the Halo rings the first time to stop the flood 100,000's of years ago. (The Rings kill all sentient life in the galaxy) Potential food for the Flood to consume and grow.

I'm guessing life on Earth began a new and we evolved into what we are today. The only problem is we don't evolve from simple organisms into what we are now that fast. Pehaps some forerunners survived (I'm sure they had the technology to leave the galaxy or there are other shield worlds like Onyx) and they sped up the evolution.

This is why Master Chief and all other humans can activate Forerunner technology and the Covenant can't. Humans have Forerunner genetic code inside of them.

The picture above must be set 100,000's of year in the past.

Most of this is speculation as the Forerunners are a mysterious extinct race. Shame nobody has fleshed them out yet but I doubt they ever will. Looks like Ensemble might have but this game is cancelled according to the guy who created this image.

Most of what you said is right although I could argue some of the details with you. For your last sentence Bungie is actually making a new set of novels thats about the forerunners and is supposed to delve into their lives and hopefully the epic galactic war between them and the flood. I think it's supposed to be a trilogy but I'm not sure.

I thought Bungie insisted that Forerunners were not a race of humans.  Humans were just a race that the Forerunners thought very highly of.

Never heard that. They disapeared 100,000's of years ago :). We were all caveman in africa or something back then.

The 343 Guilty Spark (Forerunner created Monitor of the Halo Ring) calls Master Chief the reclaimer multiple times. Reclaiming technology that is rightfully ours?

Oh and there is loads more concept shots on his website. I'll post them.

This sure as hell isn't Halo Wars and is definitley a Forerunner based game on Forerunner worlds that was cancelled. Ensemble still exist's by the way, just under a different name (Robot Entertainment) and a different studio location I believe.

All these pictures are tagged 07 and the last one is 08 so this is old concept art.

Brilliant, just the type of novels needed. Very little is known about them. They're the biggest mystery in the Halo series alongside MC's face :)

Looks like something from Mass Effect... which is by no means a bad thing.

I was getting more of a Final Fantasy XIII vibe from the first picture in this thread.

Yeah, I can see that. Picture 3 was the one that shot out at me though. You know, when you're at The Citadel?

Yeah, when you are in the main huge room with the artificial sky, which stretches of into the distance in both directions. It's a similar setting, there are lots of fountains, statues and grass area's etc. Plus flying cars :)

It's like a public garden.

Well, a civilization such as the forerunners would understand the capacity for a race of beings such as the humans.  Opposable thumbs, large brains, etc.  They figured we were special and could some day be able to perhaps take one day inherit their technology.  Hence the graveminds quotes about inheriting the throne, and something about the sons inheriting the sins of the father.

If I recall correctly, there were forerunner(perhaps precursor) control panels that had 7(maybe six) fingers in one of the games.

Also, a dog can reclaim something of yours if it is trained to.

Either way, it is still ambiguous as to whether or not the forerunners were human(maybe humanoid).  Or possibly a long lost branch of the forerunner race.  The upcoming books should shed light on this.
