I really expected Blue Dragon to sell better...
but I have high hopes for Lost Odyssey. Hopefully it will move more systems in japan and make a FF like splash in the West.

Meh. Blue Dragon has sold fairly well, and it isn't Christmas yet. Give it till the end of the year before making final predictions.
I was just looking over Christmas sales from last year - boy, RPGs sure did well over Christmas, even the bad ones. PSU got huge boosts, and so did Oblivion. if BD can still chart in the 50-150 area, it'll do quite well. Same goes for ES.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
Blue Dragon sold poorly, like I predicted. Especially when you know how high profile it was, and what it was meant to do. Delusional people thought it would catch up in the USA and Europe, but that never happened. Especially with the demographic of XBox 360. After all, MS own records show what XB360 owners play the most (the top 10) are FPS and racers. That's all there is on their top 10.
Only western style RPG sell well on it.
So Sakaguchi just made a big mistake for his studio, but then again, he was retired and didn't want to create sth great, but why drag Uematsu in this mess?
Blue Dragon is a big failure any way you look at it, so it sure enough do not deserve to be put on even a stupid top 5 games from Sakaguchi.
| W29 said: @mrstickball Yeah and I liked the part when he said "I have always looked upon Final Fantasy as a son, but Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are like my newborn daughters. I want a good life for all of them in the future". Now that is what I'm talking about. Hironobu Sakaguchi is moving on and making newer franchises. |
Instead, Square-Enix keeps churning out more sequels (come on, FFXIII??? DQIX??? ridiculous) and even more worrying, spinoffs. Don't get me wrong, I love FFs but SE, you have to move on and make new IPs, try new things!

I don't know stickball. JRPGs may just not sell all that well on the 360. It's hard to have a system with a fanbase diverse enough to buy every genre. The only systems I can think of that did it are the SNES, PS, PS2, and DS. The Wii and PS3 may sell all genres, but they certainly haven't proven that they can yet. Honestly I don't expect LO to break 1 million worldwide. I mean Blue Dragon still hasn't broke 500K. Eternal Sonata flopped even harder.

^^ They're both kiddie-image RPGs, a major turn-off for the Xbox360 fanbase,IMO. I expect Lost Odyssey to fare much better.

I expect it to do better too, but that doesn't mean it will be successful.

Indeed. By no means Bioshock/GOW/Halo 3 number, but respectable nonetheless (~750k WW).

I agree with your prediction of the LO WW numbers. Don't think it'll do too much in Japan but I think it will clean up in the Americas.
@W29
I'd love to see a remake of Chrono Trigger also, just not on XBLA, I just can't stand having to convert "Microsoft Points" into actual dollars. :) But no really, I think it should be remade on a nintendo console, where it started out at.
