So when does Red-Ray make its debut into this mess?

C'mon G you've been already laughed out for this one...

Well, currently the manufacturing cost doesn't seem to have any effect on the retail price (except perhaps for HD-DVD combo discs). However, the cost of manufacturing is one of the reasons Paramount cited as cause for their HD-DVD exclusivity. Anyway, this is all fairly irrelevant at this point; the HD market hasn't developed enough to really test manufacturing limits or to demonstrate significant sales numbers. It will still be a while yet before that occurs.

G? My my Kber, I dont' see my name in your sig yet, you better fix that.

Either way, does anyone know when Red Ray will appear?

I said this many times, fighting over a format is pointless. Still to low of numbers to see who could win. Even though I do think HD-DVD is going to win in the long run. Also I'm going out today for my copy of Transformers.

 Yeah. How about $150 million...

Awwww, just when I thought I could join the wall of infamy. :) Guess I have a long way to go before I can be deemed a true Gballzack conspirator.

I don't know where your numbers are from, but I'm more specifically referring to the initial investment required. HD-DVD discs are the same thickness as DVDs, and it is possible to convert DVD manufacturing equipment into HD-DVD equipment relatively cheaply because of this. Blu-ray discs are a different thickness and require entirely new and considerably more expensive equipment.

 This is correct, it does cost a lot more for the equipment to produce Blu-Ray.

@Onimusha12:

Are you talking about HVD?
