Wii on top by 138k units. The PS3 will have to manage a huge week to offset this 2 past weeks. It all relies now on FFXIII.

It could manage it, with those 200k bundles, but the Wii will win the following week so the weekly gain would have to be a few thousand bigger than the 138k lead.

Wii on top by 96k, with only 1 week remaining we can safely declare the Wii as a winner, but this was a close race indeed. We will find out next week how close the PS3 got.

FINAL UPDATE

Updated YTD Sales: PS3 1796k vs Wii 1988k

Wii is declared the winner as the last week of data arrives. The final results are Wii won this year by 192k according to VGC numbers.


The Wii recovered itself thanks to NSMBWii and it was so big that what was thought would be a tough opponent (FFXIII), was no rival for NSMBWii. It was a close race until NSMBW released, but then it became apparent that it was too big even for FF.

The PS3 managed to have an astoundig year, almost selling on par with the Wii and having a massive YoY growth, but then, its biggest year was smaller than Wii's smaller one.

The Wii was big enough to outsell the PS3, but it was still down YoY from 2008. Even then it managed a great December and next year should be bigger if SW starts to get announced soon. So far the line up doesn't look good at all, but there's still time for it to appear.
I think devs will be too quick to judge the Wii's relative bad performance of 2009 and will have almost nothing ready for 2010. It will be Wii's hardest year yet, but if Nintendo announces something big it could be offset. 3rd parties have already shown signs of not wanting to support the Wii in Japan. Q1 lineup clearly shows that, and the fact that there's nothing else announced for the rest of the year is even more telling.
