Advent rising was not very good.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

I always wanted to play Advent Rising, despite the mediocre reviews it got. If only it were compatible with the 360. But since BC offers no money to Microsoft anymore, it'll never happen. From what I read back where, this was a pretty ambitious project. It was supposed to be a trilogy, too, I think. I'd love to see the story told the right way.

I picked it up for like $7 one time and had a blast.  Its flawed for sure.  The developer that came to be Chair really didn't have the experience to do this as their first game and it showed.  With some better quality control, it really would've shined (but probably still not have been a big success).  Sadly many of the best moments of the game were in the later levels, and most people gave up before then.
