Yes. The same John Carmack that made Doom made this lunar lander. Total cost of the lander (designed for commercial use) was ~$1m USD. For comparison, the lunar module for the Apollo missions were $11 billion dollars.

if thats using fuel,then its completely uneccasery,were running out of fuel so lets make a little novelty thats wastes our fuel

It's a lunar lander that is created by John Carmack's Armadillo Aerospace team. It's completed stage 2 of the contest - to get us back to the moon. The cost of the lander was about 1/10000th of what it cost in 1969 dollars to get to the moon.

I suggest you watch the videos to understand what they represent.

Carmack is indeed a cool guy, in his own geeky way.
