Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft aims for more 'Natal-like' evoloutions"

So its like if the Nintendo Gamecube was very popular and Nintendo released the Wiimote as a new way to play games on your Gamecube? Not the best way to win over a new audience (splits the userbase), but it sure is a better PR move to current owners of the 360.

Basically what I'm saying is that if me, as a former Gamecube owner, had the option to buy a Wiimote and use it as an upgrade instead of buying a Wii (which I haven't) then that IS something that I would've done.

Good point.
I personally see MS using the 360 to get Natal into the public conscious ready to include it with their next console.
They probably would have prefered to release it as a feature for the next machine but are being forced to release it sooner due to what their competitors are up to. Maybe because the Wii is doing so well they want to ride some of that success before it dies down.

The fact that it can be used on the PC could be very important. If they had offered a Wiimote with the Cube you could only have used it on the cube whereas this wont be limited like that.

Also it doesn't really split the userbase as everyone can get hold of one and big releases aren't going to be Natal only but have Natal enhanced features.
