Zune HD not coming to UK

Posted on 11 Sep 2009 at 13:54

Microsoft has confirmed the Zune HD will not be showing its face in the UK, or at least not any time soon.

The Zune HD will be released in the US next week, and there had been speculation that Microsoft might finally bring the device to Europe.

However, the company has now put paid to that hope, confirming that "for the time being the Zune HD device will remain US only."

"Right now we are focused on deploying an exciting service in the form of Zune Video to 18 markets," a Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed. "We are looking at potential future hardware experiences for these markets, but do not have anything to announce right now."

Instead, UK users can look forward to accessing the Zune Marketplace through their Xbox consoles, which will offer videos, music and podcasts.

While the absence of the first two Zune players didn't overly perturb UK consumers, the Zune HD comes with an OLED touchscreen, HD radio, wireless connectivity and web browser, making it a viable challenger to Apple's dominant touch range.

It's currently being touted in 16GB and 32GB versions, priced at $219 and $289 respectively.

Still, we can always cling to the phrase "for the time being".

I hear you on that. Try Winamp for your Ipod.  It will even convert FLAC files.

Big mistake Microsoft.

^^How do you know? Companies like MS spend $$$££millions on market reseach. Obviously they looked at it and didn't think it was a good idea...at least not yet.

But of course...you know better..

Because they don't have the DRM service set up there. Same in Canada. They can't introduce their 19.99 per month unlimited downloads offer because canadian law wont allow it yet since the songs you donwnload have DRM.

Its pointless to introduce a Zune and probably sell it at a loss and not being able to sell your service for a profit.

It's my opinion, don't get your knickers in a twist, also are you saying companys don't make mistakes?

Companies don't make mistakes the consumer does.
R.I.P. Enron.

@Seece
I never said it wasn't your opinion and my knickers are great thanks for your concern.

You voice your opinion and I responded to it, is that not what these forums are about? Am I not allowed this right?

Yes companies makes mistakes but they are in a far better position than you are to make this call therefore I would trust their decision rather than yours, that's all I am saying.

Thats my opinion.
