Forums - Sony - Nextweek PS3 sales : biggest drop ever ?

I think 300k is likely, but I think it could maintain itself at around the 150k to 200k leading up to November.

Then we should start raising into the 225k to 350k in the lead up to christmas. Where we could see the PS3 hit the 500k for at least one week.

The interesting thing is noone waited for elite price drop lol also why Arcade users didn't decide to upgrade to elite ? - actually they have more reasons to rebuy hardware than Ps3 owners. lol at haters

OT - obviously there will be a big drop - it's normal - I go with270k

Yeah because the elite price drop was actually a secret

Urgh... again you don't buy an elite if you have an arcade...

I agree with this... unlike the PS3, which has had models that simply couldn't be upgraded (couldn't add WiFi on the early 20 GB models, loss of BC with no ability to add it back in), the 360 units have pretty much been upgradeable to the next level except for the lack of HDMI on early units, and even those had component video and VGA.

There just isn't a compelling reason to buy an Elite if you have an arcade and add a hard drive for < $150.

oh yes !!!

and if a PS3 with BC u upgrade for a PS3 wo BC ... makes a lot of sense

LOL!  I could have made that clearer, I guess.

I believe the lower-end PS3's lost BC first, meaning a user had more incentive to buy the higher end to get the BC, the same as with the 2 launch units, where the lower-end lacked WiFi and had no way to have it added on.  So... in both circumstances, a user might be tempted to spend more for the higher-end unit to get a feature that couldn't be added on later.  The same hasn't really been true with the 360.

How come the PS3 got such a huge boost from lowering their price to $299? But the 360 lowering the elite to $299 doesn't even cause a bump? Have they not officially lowered the price yet?

Because the 360 has had a cheaper unit available for a while... in fact, I believe there has always been a $300 360 available (core unit).  I'm guessing there are quite a few people who simply refused to buy a gaming console for more than $300, regardless if it had Blu-ray, the CELL, wings, headlights, etc.  Many people just want a Wii, 360, or PS3 to play games.  Some people are attracted to the so called "value" of the PS3, but not everyone.

It'll drop to about 300K-350K next week. Then the week after that will be around 200K-250K. That's my estimate anyways. If it drops more then that, I'll be shocked.

already working on the FUD for next week huh...

I'm gonna say:
110k NA
60k JP
130k EU

But I'm also going to venture out and say there will be a nice increase in software sales either this next or the week after. I think that people who bought a PS3 for this week's chart will steadily start buying a bunch of old PS3 exclusives. We saw a bit of that this week, but not very much.

Well, it may sell a lot less since it seems to be sold out at a lot of places. Its selling on ebay with a premium, type slim PS3 and youll see. They prolly didnt release near christmas because they wouldnt be able to sustained a much bigger amount of console than what we saw last week.

no drop. Ps3 gonna continue to rock !!

of course it's going to have a major drop in sales! at first, I thought it would have been wise to wait till november to release the slim to create a holiday buzz and limit the drop off sales BUT this way they have a longer increase of sales with a dip in the middle. interesting to see if it pays off.

EXACTL WHAT IM WONDERING

what will happen in (end September / end November) when ODST/Forza3 will be released

there is a HOLE in their strategy : they needed GT5 for September !!!
