Forums - Microsoft - Halo: ODST - "Two words: really underwhelming"

Sounds to me like he was mistaken on what ODST was. It's always a bummer when a game doesn't turn out like what you expected and I think that is what we are seeing in this article rather than a clear objective look at what is essentially an expansion pack.
I suppose one can say he went in looking for WoW 2 and got Litch King. It's great but only if that is what you were expecting

@Adjudicator: yeah, i agree there. It seems he was expecting the next "evolution" of the Halo franchise, when it's just a standalone xpac. Reminded me of some Shadow Complex reviews that bashed the game for being a rip of Super Metroid - nevermind the fact that it's 15 years old and a lot of gamers nowadays have never played it lol

First of all those are not my words.. thats what the writer called the people they thought would start crying about the article.

Second.. "i don't care about your insecurites", now thats personal. And uncalled for. And no need to get all hostile over the internet haha.

And what does the PS3, and MAG, have to do with the article? And why would you want to troll it? Insecure? :D Sorry, just had to.

And like i said before. The writer isnt downplaying the graphics, his initial hype over a Halo title being released just got crushed since he had high expectations. And then to only find out that the game is just an "expansion" made him feel sad and underwhelmed. Basic as that. That dosent exclude that the game will be just as epic as Halo 3 or less fun. But people like you just read the title, sense the negativity and go bananas and start to twist words.

If you didn't say that then I apologise, however you formated the post in a way that made it look like they were your words.

Secondly the line about MAG was supposed to show how stupid it is to be "underwhelmed" by a game because it didn't meet your graphical expectation. I thought the smiley would have tipped you off.

Finaly there have been countless videos posted of ODST gameplay and Bungie has said over and over again that this game is based entirely off the Halo 3 engine. So how in the world does a game journalist walk into a review session without having a single clue as to what their going to see?

The definitive evidence that video games turn people into mass murderers

I happen to like the art style of the Halo series. I don't want all of my games to always look ultra realistic. Just as I enjoy Mario because its cartoonish and Square Enix games because they look like Anime. I do appreciate the realistic look of many FPS games like COD among others. And I also agree Halo 2 didn't have anywhere near the best graphics on xbox and were only slightly better then H1, Halo 3 didn't really look graphically much better then either of them. And the graphics look dated especially compared to Modern Warfare. But all three are classics just as I expect ODST to be.

We have all the 360 fans praising Halo:ODST and defending the game.
On the other hand we have the PS3 fans defending the journalist and bagging Halo:ODST.

Guess what the sales of the game will tell the real story at the end of the day. No PS3 game will match Halo:ODST in sales for 2009 except for maybe Gran Turismo 5 which is unlikely to be released in 2009. Final Fantasy XIII will not have a enough time and being released only in Japan mid December it will not outsell Halo:ODST in 2009.

3 million sales Halo:ODST for first week. Around 5 million for 2009 sales of the game. 6 to 7 million for lifetime sales.
