Slightly inspired by another thread :P Thought I'd see which of the final fantasy games are the most popular on this forum (FFX-2 and FFXI dont count for clarity).
I've only played FF3, FF4, FF7, FF8, FF9, FF10 and FF12
1) FF10 - This might not prove the most popular choice, but for me FFX had the most compelling, yet contained story of the series. The fact that tidus is new to the world of spira is a clever device which allows the game to go into detail about the game world without seeming excessive. I also think that the music (bar the main battle theme), is the best in the series. The sphere grid is also my favourite character progression system.
2) FF12 - By contrast this probably has the worst story and music, but I just had such a blast with it. The RPG aspect is so incredibly deep with so many layers of customisation, and the esper battles are alot of fun. I also like the fact that its LONG.
3) FF7 - This game has an amazing atmosphere, and a great story, I actually dont like the RPG element of it as much as other FF games, as your party members end up being pretty much carbon copies of eachother by the end. Awesome music though
4) FF9 - Decent, though not amazing story. I liked the fact that characters were given specific classes, but I also felt like there wasnt much room for customisation in character progression.
5)FF4 - I actually quite liked the story, though the final act felt a little forced. I liked the fact that it was a difficult game, and that you really had to be on the ball to win in most boss battles.
5) FF8 - Would have been higher if it wasnt for drawing, and that orphanage "twist", quite possibly the most bizzare plot device in the history of games. Also, its too easy to abuse the battle system with aura + renzokuken.
6) FF3
