A Slim 360 would be probably more expensive then current SKU's, because all the hardware inside is allready much smaller then the launch ones. 360 slim could boost sales but for how long?

It may be a poor use, but you know Sony didn't call it the slim right? It's just a slimmer model, the PS2 isn't the PS2 slim, same with PS1 slim etc. They are names people adopted for them.
Also deminsions are from google.

Amazon lists deminsions lol.
I bet that MS thinks "Smaller console = last chance" in case they start losing, they havnt been in third place either gen.
I like my 360,a slim would be nice but i wouldnt trade it in.
b/c they realize that the 360 case should have been BIGGER and not smaller still.
To all the bone heads who think only sony and sega were the only ones to create smaller units. Nintendo and Atari were way ahead of the game.

The PS2 re-design was about reducing an already ridiculous cost efficient system to further make way for cutting price. It basically sealed the deal as the number 1 system. You can cut internal costs as much as you want, but eventually the redesigning the shell becomes the only way to reduce costs further.
The PS3 re-design was a necessity. The only way for SONY to reduce prices more without breaking the budget (meaning the hardware division, not necessarily the parent company) was to do the SLIM. I expect a year from now or so for SONY to further reduce costs of the internals. Eventually near end cycle we may see another re-disign of the shell.
Lets not forget the internals for the PS3 and X360 have already been refreshed at least once. We are sure to get more.
I dunno the cost breakdown of the X360 casing but after one or two more internal refreshes MS might be forced to redo the casing if it wants to further reduce costs.
Becuase it only has two consoles in it's history plain and simple...PS2 was out when Ps1 got redesigned..right?

A little off topic trolling?
Microsoft does not redesign.
They patch and update, and when consumers are no longer satisfied with that, they make a new one.
It's what they did with the original Xbox, and what they do with Windows.

Wrong.
The first xbox was selling ok, they canned it because they fubared the project (chipmakers owning the designs) and as a result they'd never be able to sell it at a profit.
