Forums - General - College Thread

So this is just a thread to discuss anything college related, especially for freshmen who just entered college this year.

==========================================

I fucking hate how they try to make you meet other people. I fucking hate it when this kid just randomly goes up to people (me included) and goes, "Hi, my name is X, lets be friends". I just hate random shit like that. It feels like some kind of blind date, and it feels so unnatural. I'll rather just become friends after having a legitimate discussion and know each other, not asking "Where are you from? What is your guilty pleasure ('OMG I love Family Guy!!! LOL')" at the behest of the RAs.

It's like in Pulp Fiction too, I feel like true friends are people who you can just shut the fuck up with and enjoy the silence.

I started university in Australia this year, and it must be a bit more impersonal here, because you don't need to have anything to do with anyone else if you don't want to, and no one will care or make you.

I think the American college system is more like an evolution of high school isn't it?

My college in Australia is very impersonal as-well.

Where are you at Farmland?

I'm at UNSW. Nintendo I see you're at ANU. I have some friends their that say it's awesome, even though they're not great fans of Canberra?

I don't know.  But it is the capital city of Australia.

I started at the University of Colorado at Boulder a few weeks ago. I'm pretty excited since I get to build a satellite that will be launched to 100,000 ft in my first semester. That'll be pretty cool, and next year I can work on satellites that will actually go into orbit. Woo!

I know it is vexing how the universities push students, especially freshman, into silly social events, but they do have a good reason. Many freshman are quite lonely and homesick when they first attend college. The college desires to foster an environment where students can easily acquire friends to mitigate the homesickness. If it is that unbearable, simply wait until the mid-terms...everyone stops caring at that time.

Sophomore year at Saint Joseph's University (in Philadelphia). The first week of school is really boring as a sophomore, when you're not being shunted everywhere a mile a minute as part of some orientation thing.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
