i would recomend lain, alongside beebop and evangelion its considered the best from the 90s, really well done psycho triller.

Quite refreshing. Reminds me a bit of Bo Bo Bo, but with more emphasis on the 4th wall.

First season was great, second season was blah, and i'm hoping the third is better than the first season.(haven't watched the ovas yet)

First season was great because they focused more on the big identifiable issues with Japan (represented by the girls). The second season was harder because of the more specific references. Third season I think is much understandable and really great.
