I agree that FF is always a AAA title but it shouldn't be the standard. SE spends lots of time and money on each iteration as it is their claim to fame. FF series tries to innovate in every iteration and is helped by the fact that they are unrelated to each other. Not a whole lot of other RPG series have that luxury. Dragon quest another one of their staple series is on the opposite end of spectrum where they shy away from innovation in game mechanics (9 being the main exception).
A little off topic but sinc eit has been mentioned in the thread I spent 80+ hours on the following games
- Grandia
- Grandia 2
- Arc the lad
- Suikoden
- Suikoden 2 (not yet finished)
- Suikoden 3 (not yet finished)
- Suiokoden Tierkries
- Wild Arms
- Legend of the dragoon
- Tactics Ogre - knights of lodis
A lot of it is due to the fact that I like grinding ... well ... to clarify .... I just like my boss battles to finish in at most 2 -3 tries so i do my best the whole time to be more levelled up than just going through the story would accomplish. It doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy it, grandia especially has an awesome combat system that made it easier to do grinding.
