Start Spreadin’ the News…New Maps (and More) Coming to Fat Princess!

Posted in Fat Princess on September 4th, 2009 by Titan Dev –

Due to the tremendous success of Fat Princess on PSN, we are pleased to announce a host of new content for you, our loyal fans.  Today at PAX we spilled the beans on New Pork, an awesome new city-themed level.  New Pork offers an exciting array of strategies to slice and dice your way to victory. Use multiple sewer shortcuts to sneak up behind your enemies, blow up barricades to open up new routes of assault and defend your princess from the rooftops.

New Pork is just the beginning of additional content for Fat Princess. For details on New Pork and news of the coming update, as well as PAX video interviews with the Titan Devs, stay tuned to the Titan Blog.

Welcome to New Pork, baby...

AWESOME! The "and more" is probably a few new classes, i hope.  And it would be sweet with a 3rd upgrade level for all characters. And be able to destroy the enemy hat machines! Can't wait.
EDIT: Here are the hinted classes from Titan Studios blog, for whomever might have missed it.

Titan teases Fat Princess ... ninjas!

UPDATE: Hands on Impressions about the new Fat Princess content. No Date or New Class info confirmed in the text.

We check out a new map and hear about other various and sundry changes coming to this charming online action game.

Fat Princess was released on PlayStation Network this past July to mostly positive critical reviews. Though the game had its fair share of flaws--especially when it came to online connection issues--the overall experience proved to be an undeniably charming twist on typical class-based online action games, swapping standard capture-the-flag scenarios for obese princesses who are in constant danger of being kidnapped by cutesy but deceptively brutal warriors, priests, wizards, and so on. Developer Titan Studios has been hard at work coming up with new content and balancing tweaks since the game was released, and we recently had a chance to check out a new map and hear about a few other changes due to roll out soon.

On the show floor at PAX 2009, the PlayStation booth is giving the public a look at a new map called New Pork with a few members of the developer on hand to explain some of the big changes. To start, this map is definitely one of the larger ones you’ll find in Fat Princess. It’s based on a medieval city, which sets it apart from the forests, deserts, beaches, and lava pits that made up the general themes of the original game’s maps. It’s a map with lots of wide-open space and few choke points. In the middle is a large plaza with a circle of columns surrounding a capture point. There are plenty of narrow alleyways, but for the most part, this a large map with lots of space to run around.

Some of the paths in this map are blocked by piles of junk lying in the way, much in the same way other maps had big rocks that you had to hack through in order to free up new routes to the enemy base. But another option is to take the multitude of hidden paths and teleports that make up New Pork. Titan was keen to point out that this map contains a ton of teleports, making its relatively large geography fairly easy to navigate if you know all the little secrets. Another interesting trait is that New Pork takes the repairable doors that you’d only find on castle doorways in the original game, and places them in a number of different areas on the map, adding several layers of defenses for each team.

In addition to showing off this new map, we also managed to pick up a few new bits of information about some other tweaks coming to Fat Princess. A new ranking and leaderboard system is on the way, as well as new matchmaking features that are designed to keep teams balanced and prevent players on the losing team from all joining the winning team en masse. As far as class balancing goes, you’ll see that the warrior class has been beefed up quite a bit, while the dark mage has been toned down in terms of his powers.

When we asked about release information for this new content, we didn’t get much in the way of an answer. Titan is still working on other maps, various tweaks to the game, and what we’d venture a guess to be new classes as well. So while we don’t know everything that’s on the way, or when it will be released, we do know that Titan is still out to make sure Fat Princess stays fresh and fun.

I still need to get that, just been busy...

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

I still need to get Fat Princess. I need money D;

My guess is that Fat Princess will receive a King! With the power to raise the taxes of the kingdom, that will make you poor, and you wont have money for food, you'll get hungry, and you will starve to death..... or maybe not.

But the introduction of a King is most likely :L

^^when is this coming out

Around the Network

Nice. I hope it won't be too pricey. Thank you.

Gonna guess on a $2.99 DLC. 4 new class + 2 new maps.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 > Modern Warfare 2

One thing i noticed just now from that picture is that the level isnt anything like the others. And ill tell you why. You can clearly see the Spawn doors, one to the bottom right and one to the top right.

And by looking at that level layout you can clearly see that its not a mirrored layout as all the other maps. The maps we have today looks the exact same way no matter if you play as Blue or Red. But judging by this picture (not sure that thats the official level design), this map, New Pork, wont be mirrored. Which means they'll have to have made the map very balanced (which it dosen't look to be since the lower part of the map have all access to Metal and Wood, and the top not so much), or implemented some kind of team switch after say 15min or so?!

This could indirectly mean that there's a new game mode coming, due to it not being very well balanced in the sense of traditional Fat Princess gameplay? Could this mean we'll get some sort of Search and Destroy? :D

On second thought, it could just be that the lower door is some sort of barricade, like it says in the text. And we're just seeing the right side of the map :(

Yeah I think we're just seeing the right side of the map.
