Forums - Gaming - Some UK opinions of the 40G PS3

I just threw in FFXII for reference, and despite the jaggies evident in many PS2 games, it looked fairly nice, particularly in the close-up scenes. As for the screen-size, I think the smallest plasmas are 37", and they do consume more power than LCD TVs do. In my opinion, they carry a lot of advantages over LCD TVs in general, though.

But not hazy? Or dancing images when you move around? I have my TV only about half a year, so buying a new one is a bit too much to ask. Isn't anything else I can do to make improvements? Perhaps a small LCD TV would do something or no good either? For future knowledge... does it matter what brand Plasma you buy? I've also heard about laser TV's which suppose to release by the end of the year...

THe people on the message boards are always hardcore gamers that would like better the 60Gb in any case .Those posts are completely expected .But for the people on the street the machine is still a PS3 with BR,Cell,RSX,Wifi,hard disc ,free online,sixaxis controllers by bluetooth etc etc and a lot cheaper than before .The machine will sell way better .

And seeing as the 60Gb will sell I doubt Sony will keep us without BC forever .THey just want to deplete the 60Gb here ,probably later and if the consumers request so they will introduce the 80Gb (still in production ) to the European market .

PD:Elite Girl Gamer is Gballzack or whatever she was called ,I think its pretty obvious .

 Dont know why people are complaing about BC not being there. 360 doesnt have it on core system. And not even full on other systems.

 Exactly my point 8)

@Onna76

Okay, I just checked out FFXII in the PS3, and the appearance of the jaggies were definitely reduced. Perhaps the upscaling would benefit your specific case more than it does mine. As far as haziness or dancing images, I'm not sure I know what you're referring to; I don't think I noticed anything that I would classify as such.

For plasma TVs, brand definitely matters. By all accounts, the best plasmas are made by either Panasonic or Pioneer. I would avoid any other brands.

The only thing is that it's bloody confusing for the average consumer this gen. 360 was bad but PS3 is a new level of WTF.

@GooseGaws, *Getting confused*, so the upscale upgrades on the PS3 might be for me a perfect solution if I understand it right? Well what I mean with hazy and dancing images is... at first the graphics are hazy on my TV screen, the Japanese characters are not clear to read them well. I can't check them anymore now as my PS2 is dead of course. But I do remember, when you move your character around in say FFXII then you see the entire background moving more like dancing, pretty annoying. I've noticed this heavy in FFXII and KH2 when you're in Twilight Town for instance. As soon as Sora walks around the place you see the walls on the background literally dancing.

And again sorry for going off topic but I'm happy people are me helping me out with this major issue "for me".

Well, it sounds to me like you may be describing the effects of something like dot crawl, in which case the upscaling may prove beneficial. I haven't really played FFXII or KH2 at all, so I can't speak for the areas in the game you are referring to.

GooseGaws,

Thx for your links.
Time will tell if Sony follow this line (no BC at all) or not.

About the "bad PR" of Sony,
I think people are considering that internet is representative of the gamer population.
Personnaly, I think this is wrong.
A lot of people are not used to read the news of the day on Gamespot or IGN.
I dont think the "bad PR" of Sony is a big problem.

Remember, in europe for example, only 1 model was released so far :
the 60gb at 600euros.
This is quite simple ...

Dot crawl, okay just have learned something new :D I've played for a bit Star Ocean III for instance on the PS2, which has an 480p option and with that the so called dot crawl was a lot less. The thing is that FFXII and KH2 standard on the PS2 don't support 480p to begin with but only 480i when you're using a component cable.

@libellule:

Anyone willing to spend the amount of money required to purchase a PS3 is usually interested in doing a little research first. The constant reconfiguration of Sony's business model would likely cause an average consumer to balk and become nervous about the purchase of such an expensive item.
