Forums - Gaming - Sony Download Pricing

When it comes to digital downloads, I've never been a big fan of them.  I've always liked having the tangible product with extras in my hands instead of something more virtual and only on a hard drive.  I read this article and thought "OMG".  Just wondering what the thoughts are on this from the VG community.  Especially those that will be benefiting from these digital downloads or the ones thinking they'll be screwed by them.  I think the pricing is ridiculous for the digital downloads and I know I wouldn't be buying them.  I wonder how many would feel the same or different.  If Nintendo did this, I'd feel the same way and would still continue to buy the tangible product.  Hell, even now, when looking for a N64 title or something, I look on eBay or in a bargain bin somewhere before going to Nintendo's WiiWare channels to buy digital copies of the game on the Wii console.  Here's the link.  I guess let the debate or single voice begin...

the two stories arent related in any way.

But... Sony cant be charging the same for a download only product as they are for the physical equivalent.... that makes no sense... I think the article is probably wrong.

I did agree with you but then I realized that the greed of these companies is behind something like this and with that thought, it was similar to me.  Also because they both involve download games.

I think sony will look at the blunder that was games on demand and lower the prices. but as of right now they do not. Of course, they have not launched the fully digital platform yet, once they do that they will probably do so to make it more attractive.

@wiifan75

no they dont... the second story is about the price of the 360 arcade sku, not arcade games.

I just took another look and you are right about that.  I read it thinking it was referring to game download pricing.  I've edited the OP.  Thanks for pointing that out to me.

Why not? They'll make a lot more money that way... I always assumed they would cost the same anyway.

They better keep the prices the same, just because you want it digitally doesnt mean you should get it cheaper. It isnt fair to the people who have older PSPs and cannot take advantage of thisswithout going out and getting a $70+ memory card to fit everything one there.

This better not be the case, otherwise I will always go out of my way to get the physical copy. In fact the physical copy should COME with the right to download the digital copy for free. Buying the standalone digital copy should be at least 25% less (~$10).

People who buy the PSPGO also have to buy that $70+ memory card.

I agree with dharh.  No physical manufacturing and an incredible reduction in the cost of putting it out digitally.  As far as being fair, that's like saying it's not fair that the PS2 I have can't do the PSN functionality.  You bought technology that is now old.  It happens.  If you buy the new PSPGo, then I think your digital copies should be cheaper than physical copies.  And dharh had another good point about a digital copy for free.  The movie DVDs have that through the iTunes store.  That should be an option for those that bought the physical copy of any game.  To have a code to download the digital copy for free or unlock the digital copy included on the game media.
