Sony’s Massive Advertising Campaign Blitzes UK

09/03/2009 Written by Sebastian Moss

Sony recently started an £82 million ($133.5 million) advertising campaign, in Europe alone - the PlayStation’s biggest since it launched in 2007, bombarding television channels with commercials that promoted the machine’s multimedia functions.

Now Sony has upped its game again, providing a wrap-around advert for the British free newspaper ‘The Metro’. 1.3 million copies of the paper are distributed across the UK, each of which are read by an average of 3 people, highlighting Sony’s commitment to the PlayStation brand. The pages, which push the new price point of the slimmer console, the new flashy PlayStation website, as well as Vidzone and Singstar can be seen below:

They're really going for broke with advertising this time around.

BTW fellas those are full page adverts on the *front and back covers* of a newspaper that reaches millions of commuters!

It's not like those ads are tucked away in the middle of the paper

Good job Sony.

I'm sure that all of the hobos fended off with the metro will seriously consider buying a ps3 slim.

That's amazing for the Newspaper ads. It's kind of like putting those pics in the front cover of NY Times.

LOL well 4+ Million people will be seeing the ad. It's smack dab on the front and back of the newspaper.

Plus friends tell friends, people tell their family members, etc... Word of mouth is very powerful once you've reached a 4 million base.

wow things just got expsensive

"They will know heghan belongs to the helghast"

"England expects that everyman will do his duty"

"we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender"

Agree.

I think a smart move would to put a lot of ads in MAXIM magazines in America.

It certainly has the PS3/360 males aged 16-32 viewer base.

Impressive!

If they're cleaver, they should round up the read copies and give away to fish 'n chips shop.

Hmm...Hake in PS3 wrapping...yum.
