Forums - Microsoft - Zune software update coming September 15th alongside Zune HD launch

http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/03/zune-software-update-coming-september-15th-alongside-zune-hd-lau/#continued

Unless Microsoft's playing a nasty trick on its loyal fanbase, the latest Zune newsletter confirms a feature-laden software update, very likely what we've been calling Zune 4.0, is due out on Tuesday, September 15th, the same day as Zune HD takes its place among its fading peers. "All-new Zune software packed with exciting new features," you say? We'll be looking forward to more HD video options and an apps marketplace, all the while bemoaning our cut in HDTV Media Center recording capabilities. As for any other surprises, looks like we'll just have to wait and see -- for now. Full Zune newsletter reprinted after the break.

[Thanks, Daren]

Wonder what some of the new features will be.  Hopefully there will be an app store and an SDK released.  I am going to pump out some quick and dirty apps in order to capitalize on people's desire to try out the new app store.  Picking up a 32gb on the 15th.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Thats cool. I sold my 80 GB today actually in anticipation for the 32 gig Zune HD. I have a 4GB model that will serve me till Zune HD comes out. You cant jog with zune HD anyways...

The only problem is that none of canadian retailers have even announced zune hd and amazon.ca doesnt list it yet. 5 bucks says this gets delayed in CAnada.

I've made up my mind as well...going along the lines as with you...IF i get a Zune HD...I'm not going to jog with the darn thing, so I'm getting a 8GB Ipod, since I've already got substantial amounts of product from the Apple store, and since I lsot my darn 160 on a flight...and so I  don't want to jsut dump my Ipod link.  But I'm going with the Zune...at 32GB...I'm gripping about that, but I'll be able to live with it.  My 8GB will be my gym player...and the Zune will function as  my handheld player...if it meets the muster...otherwise...I'm getting my Ipod touch 32GB.
