Forums - Sony - Sony Boss Admits Xbox Live Is Superior.

Having recently become a PS3 owner, I'm starting to wonder why I'm being charged $50 a year for Live. I enjoy using both services, but if Sony can pull off what they've done with PSN for free, I'm going to have a really hard time letting go of the $50 next year to renew Live. Twitter and Facebook for Gold members on XBL? I can (and do) check my Twitter, Facebook, AND e mail accounts on the PS3 web browser for no charge. Content wise, the two are comparable, except you can get free 1080p video on PSN and I think XBL maxes out at 720 for pretty much everything. The PSN store holds its own against Marketplace. Xbox Live has the party thing, but I don't really know that it's worth $50 a year. The Netflix account I started when it came to Xbox is now being used mostly to order BluRays to watch on my PS3. The Instant Streaming stuff is largely crap and does not do the Netflix library justice in any way, shape, or form.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the 360. But now that I'm using both networks regularly, I know for a fact that Xbox Live is not worth $50 a year when you compare it to what the competition is charging. Just my two cents.

When rating two products or service you have to take price into account when you make an overall rating. XBox360 fanboys always put the PS3's price as a factor when commenting on which is the better system therefore it would only make sense to do it for the online service. MS loses points when it comes to price especially if you need WiFi. Overall they are pretty much even.

Yes he did.
He admitted that Sony are playing catch up. I mean c,mon.

Troll thread.

Correct: a Sony executive is trolling PSN.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

You're paying $50...lol...sorry...I've not paid more than $38 over the past 2 years...you need to be a smarter consumer.

wtf r u guys takin about i have both and their basically equal now except for the cross chat. the connection on a lot of games is better on psn. like resistance and killzone have way better connection than gears. and as for the features it has the same invite system,u can txt eachother. the only thing they have different is psn has internet browser, and their gona get home, but the only thing they have like i mentioned befor is cross chat and u also hav to pay so overall psn is better. and if u wanna message me back state some facts like i did to prove ur point. oh and i forgot to mention that psn has better games from the store.

XBL and PSN are extremely similar. The entire voice chat/party system/messaging is slightly better and easier on XBL.

But Sony needs to realize what their possible strengths could be;
They have a psp, and seemless connectivity is only a blip on the games radar, they could do so much here.

Sony has existed with very robust game catalogues for 3 gens now. Imagine if they had all titles ever made available on the PSN with full trophy support.

They are taking a step in the right direction (imo) by releasing the GOW collection remastered with trophy support.

But those will essentially be treated like PS3 games, what I want is 3 different sections of trophies tracked. Imagine a PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3 trophy collection all centralized on the PS3.

And it would be cool to see a giant trophy room in 3D. Home is so bad dont get me started, but if you could just look at your trophy's in a room and navigate from one to the next, which would show; (for example)
Title: Shadow of the Colossus
Category: PS2
Genre: Adventure (clickable to bring up trophy lists for all games in genre)
Trophy List (clickable)
86 % complete
time played: 18hrs

things like this would really separate the PSN to the point that it wouldnt matter what XBL ever had.

get on it Sony!!

sorry for all the rambling

Official UK PS3 magazine(about 2 or 3 issues ago, Google it) played a 24 marathon on PSN and they had some pretty bad things to say about it.

The real proof is simple play COD PS3 and 360 side by side and see how many times PS3 disconects etc whereas the 360 stays firm(and it is using voice chat). Both machines running on equal speed and same ISP.
