I can only use LAN (still trying to figure out LAN for my PS3...) at my University. If I have a wireless adaptor conected onto my PC, can I still stream media from my PC to PS3 without a Wireless network?

wireless adaptor should be connected to the modem.
and the modem to the ethernet line. nothing else
if u your wireless router have ports. ps3 pc should be connected to that. or both can be wireless.
if they are all connected to the same wireless router, either wireless or by Cat5 you should be able to stream.
yes u can do it, as a local area network, but you won't have internet until you connect a ethernet to the router.
... so if I'm using a hub for the ethernet (sorry, I really don't know anything about PC or its lingo), and my PC and PS3 are both connected to the hub... once I get the PS3 to get connected to the LAN should I be able to stream media?

it's called router.
both are on the same, yes... so.
if u have four port router they are connected to the SAME router , they should be able to communicate.
of course you have to set up the router first (things security etc).
and of course having the port open for the firewall in the PC to share them.
... k so once I get the PS3 connected to the LAN I'll come back here. But I have to get that done, since Wireless isn't an option. Kk, TY.

Already since I got the PS3 and PC connected to LAN, they're both connected to the same hub. I still can't get the PS3 to find a media server.

I think that first of all you should figure out the IPs. An IP it's like the Address of your gadgets. It's like PC leaves in State.Town.Street.Number. You have to make them live in the same State, Town and Street so they can find each other.
Now the tech. Press your windows key from your keyboard. Then select "execute" or something similar. It must let you type in a little box. Type CMD. Then, a black screen will pop up. Then, type IPCONFIG. Your IP and other data will be shown. Write them down on a piece of paper and enter them into your PS3 (Settings>Internet settigs>wired>manual).
It will be something like ->
192.168.1.55 (that was your PC IP).
192.168.1.1 (thats your gateway, the bridge to the WAN [internet])
80.58.0.33 (this is DNS. This makes your system know the IP from the name you type on your browser. Example: www.google.com > thanks to DNS your PC or PS3 knows where it has to reach > (insert google IP here)
Well copy all exactly BUT the last number on your PC's IP. That would be 55 in the example. Enter any other number between 1 and 255.
Try this out and lets hope your LAN configuration it's not the kind of the university apeshit.
BTW: Almost forgot. Check you have "find media servers" activated on your PS3 and that you have a media server actually running on your PC (Windows Media would do the job just fine).
I don't really want to mess with my PS3's settings, afraid to change it since I had to do some weird things with the university's network (like registering it or something).
TY for your help though =)

Use the program PS3 Media Server when you get to that point. You can stream MKVs really well if you have a good enough PC.
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
