There have been tons of accounts of people having problems with new firmware updates in the past, the most recent of them being 3.00. Now that the Slim will be treated as Sony's main PS3 console, they'll obviously program updates specifically with it in mind (and to a lesser extent, older models). I think they'll favor the slim more when it comes to system updates.
Will incompatibility issues arise? Will more original models die? Only time will tell. Do you think Sony may neglect the older models (and their subtle differences) when coding for new firmware?
