While the IP is splashed over everything. Mario fanchises are refreshing for their lack of milking.

Mario Kart franchise: one iteration for a platform
Mario 3D platformers: Galaxy 2 will be the fourth game across 3 generations. Halo ODST will be the fourth game across 2 generations.
Mario 2D platformers: 2 on NES, 1 on SNES, one on each handheld and one on Wii.

I won't go in to every series. But seriously, I wish most franchises could be spaces as far apart as Nintendo does with their plumbers' outings.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

While that may be true from Marios main series, you can't overlook all the other titles with 'Mario' in the title.  Especially if you are going to count Mario Kart.  Just to name a few, we have Mario RPG, Paper Mario, Mario and Luigi, Mario Party, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Super Mario Strikers, Mario vs Donkey Kong, Dr. Mario, etc..  heck, we even have a Mario DDR now.  There's well over 100 titles that Mario has appeared or starred in now.

That said, I still say that most of the games he has appeared in show more focus on gameplay or some sense of 'originality'.  Unlike some other series such as a Madden, Rock Band or Final Fantasy, which just seem to be trying to pump out as many titles as they can to make a profit.  Especially Final Fantasy as of late, which in the last 'gen' has produced over 40 titles.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

I dont think a single person buys Mario games just because Mario is in the name, mos of mario spin offs are franchises by theirselves and are great games, i dont think its milked

@kenryoko - that's why I said the IP is splashed over everything. But really, despite all the franchises that use his ip, those franchises themselves are pretty well spaced out. Dr. Mario isn't exactly getting spread thin. Super Mario Strikers is a franchise with what, 2 games spread over 2 generations? That's a fantastically unmilked track record.

The only Mario franchise that ever got a good milking was Mario Party. 9 stinking mario parties! But even there we've had a reprieve, as the Wii has broken the trend of constant Mparties suggesting that Nintendo isn't as interested in milking as some people think.
