Forums - Sony - Slim PS3 Doesnt Do Component?

I think some TVs don't accept 1080p in component cables, but up to 1080i at least they all do, I think.

Well, I'm home with my slim now. Got to hold one in the store, check it out, etc. It feels a lot more solidly built! No more high gloss surface on 80% of the body is nice, as well. The guy there demoed my PS3 to make sure it was in working order before I traded, and it went into blast off while he was playing LBP. He looked scared lol.

the slim has every connection slot the fat PS3 has. No more no less

All ( 99%) 1920x1080 tv´s (full hd) accept 1080p in component and hdmi, as long as there is the connection.

1280x720 tv´s (hd ready) don´t accept 1080p, only 720p and 1080i.

hdmi and component has THE SAME QUALITY IMAGE, there´s no diference at all. hdmi is digital, component is analogic, but the signal is the same.

If you talk with managers from high profile home cinema and projectors stores they will tell you that the best cable to watch 1080p is COMPONENT.

@ NJ5

tenho cabo de componentes e hdmi para a ps3 e não há diferença nenhuma nos jogos. Em filmes já há variações, uns ficam melhor em hdmi, outros em componente.

Component is not just marginally better than composite... It gives much better colors and supports up to 1080p.

I agree on the quality.  I don't think the PS3 supports 1080p over component.

The PS3 doesn't ship with a component cable, you need to buy it.

it does, i had component before HDMI.

because my previous TV didn't have HDMI component and composite only.

component it's analog, its doesn't have better quality than digital

ps3 is digital. converts analog in the cable and then goes digital  back to the LCD.

there is a small quality degration, in my case, letters turned pink, not very noticeable unless you were really close HDMI fixed this.

HDMI also support the new color profile (going from limited to Full) and HDMI super white.

it have better blacks also

Just called Game Crazy and the guy on the phone said PS3 Slim doesn't do component, only composite and HDMI. Huh? Is this true?

ted, even if the composite signal is 480 i ( pal 576i ) and the component is up to 1080p, the output in the back of the ps3 is the same for both. If you look in your dvd or blu ray, you will notice the 3 color outputs for the component cable.

Sony does not have that 3 outputs, they use the same output from composite, to make people buy the oficial component cable. This output supports up to 1080p, but is you connect the composite cable sold with the console, the signal is "downgraded" to 480/ 576 i.

This also happened with the PS2, where the output for composite and component was the same. Actually the oficial ps3 component cable is the SAME of the PS2.

also don't forget HDMI supports encryption that component doesn't.

Yes, PS3 will do 1080P over component for games. Not BD though.

Does this mean that the PS3 does 'almost' everything?

Tease.

No, it still does everything
