Forums - Gaming - Rock Band Network coming to 360 and PS3. Sorry Wii owners

Update: It seems like Wii might possibly be getting RBN now but things are still up in the air. I'd be cautiously optimistic.

While the lead SKU for this program is the Xbox 360, the developers are hard at work getting it to work for the PlayStation 3 and the Wii, though they sounded much more optimistic about getting it working on Sony's console than Nintendo's. They ended the night by offering roughly 100 audience members the chance to join the peer-review team, complete with a free four-month XNA membership.

Some other interesting RBN related reading.

I hate how some developers just cut down the wii version of the game. Why can't they release all of the games a little later and work on the wii version and bring everything that is on the 360 and ps3 version to the wii...then after they have everything on the wii then they can release all the games together on all platforms...

How hard is it going to be for people to put their songs up on the xbox? Cause if there is no quality control, I feel like it will be like Little Big Planet or the iPhone app store where there is a ton of junk you have to wade through. If that is the case, the PS3 is actually getting the awesome straw.

Ahh Harmonix. Once again screwing over their fans cause they feel like taking the easy way out. Obviously building the RBN into future Rock Band games is completely out of the question. Who would ever think to try such a thing?

And serious, what the fuck on the PS3 bit. Why make people do extra work to release a PS3 version. The standard paper work should apply to all platforms. I really hate how Harmonix likes to half-ass aspects of their games. Is it so damn hard to do a little extra work to build up a loyal fanbase on each system?

Wow, why would anyone buy Rockband for the PS3 or Wii since they know they will never get the full experience. This will just add to the domination of GH over Rockband on the Wii and PS3.

Harmonix making its biggest mistake and i was going to buy rock band for wii but not now.....thanks alot harmonix...i hate you now

GH will pwn rock band sales like always and with harmonix ditching the wii and ps3 it will never gain as much fame as GH and never the sales like GH

My question would be, why not make the RBN songs available through the store? Then you could get it out there evenly on Wii

Two of the links above talk about the process to submit songs to the RBN. This isn't going to be like the music studio in GH, it's going to require a lot of time invested on the band's part, or on the charting company's part. All charts are going to be required to be professional quallity. As far as the actual musical style is concerned, everyone has their own taste.

My guess would be they created a legal problem that would prevent it when initially outlining the specifics of the RBN. The two likely are required to be separate due to how the whole thing is defined. You might wonder why they would ever create this situation, and that explanation is why I think my scenario is most likely. Simply put, they never thought about the other platforms when putting RBN together. It never crossed their minds to guarantee the PS3 can get all the same content, or that the Wii could get any of it. In other words, Harmonix just developed it with the 360 in mind and are now trying to slap it on the other two systems however it can stick.

So is the RBN going to be released in Indie Games? I ask this because it is being developed using XNA. But then it says only Creators Club members can access it.
