I swear I don't understand these removals of the HDMI cables... that crap probably costs like $0.05 to produce, and makes it easier for people to get the best visuals... what's up with that?

It will barely boost because, if anyone wanted a 360, they would have already bought the $199 arcade, most likely. Never said it wouldn't boost, it will but barely, not a huge difference. The slim will have a higher boost, because think of it.. the reality, people would look at the PS3 and say "thats too much for me", and buy a 360. But now, the tables have turned, and the prices are the same (as the elite).. IN MY OPINION you get more out of a $299 PS3 than a $299 xbox 360 elite, its my opinion so don't jump all over me for it! |
That is one of the stupidest arguments I've ever seen people use. If that was true then the console wouldn't be selling anymore because everybody who wants one already has one. Come on!! think a little bit!
But anywas I don't think the pricecut will do more than a 10-20% boost for a month or two, and it will help keep the sales steady during the holidays...

Yeah that does seem like it was a really stupid decision on MS's part.

well if sales dont go the way they like, im sure by mid october they'l cut the arcade price too
^ yeah that's one thing about Microsoft, if it doesn't work one way they'll make it work another.
Yep, i'm a girl
Why did you bring up the PS3?
Do you see PS3 in this thread?
Stop derailing it please!
OT-I expect slighly increased HW sales.

Dropping the price of the Elite by $100 just dropped a huge chunk of their profit margin on that SKU.
Adding a larger HDD (60 - 120GB), as most are aware of, adds very little to the overall cost of a console, given the dropping prices/higher capacity availability in drives, so by essentially making the Elite a standard Xbox with a 120GB drive and a black case, it still costs almost the same to produce as the current $299 Pro.
It's unlikely that MS stands to sell a significant number of larger drives than 120GB at $150 when they finally become available, and presumably the 120GB drives sold separately will be priced at $99 with the upcoming price drops, so neither will completely offset the losses due to the new price structuring.
By dropping the proprietary AV cable from the Elite SKU, MS hopes to recover some of those margins by selling them separately at whatever the current retail price is ($50 retail, $31.50 Amazon), even though anyone could just buy a $10 HDMI cable from anywhere.
On a related note, the new Elites sans HDMI cables are currently showing up at retail as of this week, at $399 (until the price drop next week). Expect to see some $100 refunds being returned to any consumers who don't follow the news but bought an Xbox this week anyway.
