Forums - Microsoft - No significant sales boost despite 360 price cuts, says EEDAR

Instead of a price drop they should offer free live. That would destroy any Sony move in my opinion.

It's not meant to boost sales, just keep them sustained. If they can do what they did last holiday season then they're doing great.

Inpossible. Holiday will be minus 1 million compared last year. Maybe more.

They shuld have droped $179 and $249 in my opinion. But sadly it seems it's harder to make the X360 profitable than the PS3.

I mean, in four years X360 only has dropped $100 (from $299 to $199 and $399 to $299), while PS3 in only three years has dropped $300 - from $599 to $299.

Few wrong points there Slimebeast. It's not impossible whatsoever. But it's very likely they will fall YOY, will have to see how aggressive Microsoft is with the advertising.

Elite launched at US$479.99 and the Arcade (Core?) launched at US$299 (Arcade - US$279)

Difference is Microsoft are making money off the 360 and Sony are making a loss.

That's because the components making up the PS3 cost more and those in the 360 cost less, and the 360 design lacks things the PS3 has and the 360 breaks down a lot more due to whatever configuration MS has chosen.

Take your pick: better hardware, or being able to claim that your fav company is profiting on that hardware?  To me, there's no question, but maybe you don't feel the same.

The Elite was $480 at launch in the US, so that's a drop of $180.

Sony's losses since the PS3 was launched: -

2007 - $2,483,437,762

2008 - $1,330,793,265

2009 - $624,981,361

And yeah, you can say "but MS has made a loss too", but they don't have 2 other profitable consoles on sale at the same time. The PS3 has cost them billions and the Slim is going to lose them even more.

And Microsoft isn't funding one of the largest collections of first and second party development studios in the industry. Nor have they taken it upon themselves to avoid passing the costs of their online network onto the consumer and paid for it in full out of their own pocket.

It's easy to spin things one way or the other, but none of this has anything to do with how the 360 will sell this holiday.

ok so I guess sony is loosing, but they're trying hard to get in the road and I'm sure they will, we PS3 owners win. I don't pay for PSN and other features, I have friends that spend  a lot of money on batteries, and I don't, others pay 4 wi fi , I don't care if sony is loosing money they will try harder and they will win. and I'm winning right now with good 1st party and 2nd party games and not paying 4 PSN :p.

I don't care if people from MS are getting richer if I that money would go to my pocket I'd really care.

Yeah well at least Microsoft is making a huge profit on gaming every year. They will do great this holiday.

seriuosly, and it they made money if not something we get, microsoft doesnt fund first party studios like sony, and

sony itself funds PSN for us, thats why it's free.

why is profit even coming into this discussion, its about sales

Slimebeast....What the hell are you talking about...

When The Times asked Sony exec Kaz Hirai if Sony was losing money on the PS3 Slim, the exec said this: "If you're just talking about the hardware alone, the quick answer is yes."

@ Loud

No matter which way you spin it...It will never make a difference...

I don't think M$ is trying to increase sales...they are the only ones YOY incresing their numbers...they want to take the momentum of 2009 and extend it into the holiday season.
