This is what many had expected. I think it's a smart move. If it does happen then hopefully sells will rise higher than sony expects.

Its not exactly much of a discount, you can get a 250GB HDD off Newegg for $59, plus the game at $57 off Amazon. I'm sure around xmas retailers will be discounting even further at xmas also anyway so you'll probably pay even less. Looks like it works out to be the same price to me.

Not only that, but a $399 price in the US will mean a $699 price in Australia. That's a $200 increase, I can get a 250GB 2.5" SATA drive for AUD$66, plus new PS3 games go for AUD$89-99 at JBHifi ($119 RRP) so I'd be AUD$50 worse off.

Its a shame, as otherwise it would be a great bundle, one I'd probably get.

This is nice way for Sony to make profit, because with Slim 120gb+GT5 at 299 they would be lossing way too much.

No they haven't - sales were up 30% like we reported on Sunday. That isn't skyrocketing, and the reasons were explained in my news story.

I fully expect sales to surge when the Slim launches, but to say they have already skyrocketed because of Amazon (of all places - ~2% marketshare and ranked hourly) is lame. Yes, PS3 slim preorders are high (I expect 60-70k by launch so 100k week 1 in America) but to say sales have skyrocketed since the announcement is simply untrue.

Also, this article is just lame:

"While speaking with a source close to Sony, we have received word that Sony is not only prepping Gran Turismo 5 for the holiday season, but it will be bundled with a 250GB PS3 slim for the price of $399"

Which source? It seems highly unlikely that #1 GT5 will make it this year or #2 a 250GB bundle will be put out so soon. This could happen but it is just bad reporting as far as I see it, based on nothing but speculation.

wasn't there like a couple of threads that was posted here showing that GT5 is set to release Q4 or sumthing and another interview where they said that GT5 will release shortly after GT psp.

@ioi, GTplanet also has a source that said to expect GT5 in December. Many other sites have also hinted at GT5 for this year.

I think GT5 will be released this Chirstmas, the game is done, Sony is just waiting for the best time to release it.
