In what is quickly becoming an annual event, Japanese megadeveloper Level-5 is holding its "Level-5 Vision 2009" press conference in Japan tonight at 9:30 PST, and 1UP's team in Japan will be there liveblogging as it happens.

We're not entirely sure what to expect, but Level-5 typically uses this event to showcase self-published games rather than those they are working on for other publishers (such as White Knight Chronicles), so it makes sense that they will discuss more about their partnership with Studio Ghibli, as well as a few new games

There was a confirmed rumor 1 month ago saying they have a new PS3 game to announce, so is it Dark Cloud 3?

Around the Network

I would be shocked if they didn't announce anything for the Wii, but I'm afraid they won't.

Proud poster of the 10000th reply at the Official Smash Bros Update Thread.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.

sprsk:  Hello everyone, I'm Justin Epperson 1up's Japan freelance dude and I'll be blogging todays conference.
9:25
sprsk:  People are filling up the seats right now, things are set to start in 5 minutes.
9:30
sprsk:  The conference is scheduled to run for an hour 45 with some sort of mini concert in the middle.   Get your red bulls ready boys.
9:35
sprsk:  Stage is starting to fill up with fog. Looks like the show is about to start.
9:37
sprsk:  they have video on screen now introducing the titles we know about, ninokuni the atamania series, inazuma 11 roid cardboard box wars and then new games.

What happened to ushiro?
9:38
sprsk:  Some banter from the two announcers blah blah blah
9:39
sprsk:  Now they are running some fales figures for layton, 5580000 total for layton inside japan alone
9:40
sprsk:  Ooops that was worldwide
9:40
sprsk:  Here comes Akihiro Hino the head of Level 5.
9:40
sprsk:  His suit is sparkly
9:41
sprsk:  Layton series, for those wondering.
9:43
sprsk:  They are just talking about how they are gonna knock our socks off with some crazy announcements today.
9:44
sprsk:  First up, info on the newest layton game. Proffessor Layton 4 first part in a new trilogy "Professor Layton Second Season" they are calling it
9:44
sprsk:  A trailer is running now
There's a new female character with layton and luke
9:45
sprsk:  Really cool jazzy music is playing, high quality even by this series' standards
9:46
sprsk:  Apparently luke is some sort soothseer that knows how the world is going to end.
9:47
sprsk:  The new girl's name is Remi
9:47
sprsk:  Due out november 26th in Japan
9:48
sprsk:  Game begins 3 years before the original Layton, back when Layton and Luke first meet.
9:50
sprsk:  more banter, the female announcer proclaims she's going to preorder first thing tomorrow
9:50
sprsk:  Yeah she's kinda hot.
9:51
sprsk:  Apparently Layton is really big in Europe
9:53
sprsk:  Now they are showing video of the voice cast talking about how awesome Layton is.

How awesome? So awesome.
9:54
sprsk:  The new character is being voiced by Aibu Saki
Google search go!
9:56
sprsk:  Ending theme is being sung by a girl named Ando Yuuko.
Shes under the Avex Label
9:56
sprsk:  They are announcing some extra content called "London Life" done by Brownie Brown.
It looks A LOT like Mother 3.
9:57
sprsk:  But its more of a life sim wher eyou go around making people happy. They expect about 100 hours of playtime on this mode alone.
9:58
sprsk:  Now they are going into info about the Movie Professor Layton and the eternal diva ( That's just my translation btw)

Showing trailer now.
9:59
sprsk:  The main plot point seems to be the puzzle that grants you eternal life. It includes characters from the new game. Which means Luke is also in his outfit from the new game.
10:00
sprsk:  Studios that worked on the Pokemon movies is doing the animation. Comes out in Japan theatres December 19th
10:02
sprsk:  They are bringing out Kazuya Hamana from Tokyo Broadcasting to talk about the movie.
10:03
sprsk:  The movie looks pretty much just like the FMV scenes from the game, just without all the DS compression artifacts.
10:05
sprsk:  They are trying to position the Layton movie as an annual thing every Winter.
Wow, they are really putting a lot behind this.
10:06
sprsk:  Okay FINALLY moving on, next up we have Inazuma 11 2

....
10:07
sprsk:  So the anime is a pretty big hit, it just got renewed for 2 more years in Japan.
10:07
sprsk:  They are running a trailer now.
10:08
sprsk:  This story is insane.
Aliens come to earth to play soccer against middle school students! Of course!
10:09
sprsk:  4 player local multiplayer confirmed
10:09
sprsk:  The alien team characters have crazy special attacks where they go out into space and kick fireballs
10:10
sprsk:  Game comes out in Japan Ocotober 1st 2009
10:12
sprsk:  The manga is the most popular in Korokoro Comic weekly.
10:12
sprsk:  Inazuma 11 2 is coming out on the DS as Inazuma 11 Fire and Inazuma 11 Blizzard.

They are getting Nakata Hidetoshi to be in the game as a character named Hide Nakata
10:13
sprsk:  Secret character, that is.
10:13
sprsk:  For those who don't know, he's a super popular ex-soccer player here in Japan. They even got him to record voice for the character.
10:15
sprsk:  They are taking the soccer tournament from the game "Football Frontier" and turning it into a real tournament where people will NOT play soccer, but go against each other with the game itself.
10:17
sprsk:  The opening and endings for the two different versions of Inazuma 11 are going to be completely different.

So don't forget to buy both of them!
10:19
sprsk:  Okay now BerryZ Koubou is going to sing some song. Average age is most likely 15.
10:19
sprsk:  Their first time ever singing this song on stage.
10:21
sprsk:  So we've got 7 high school girls on stage, singing some stuff, blah next game announcement please.
10:24
sprsk:  Song finally over. Hopefully they move on to Ninokuni, their team up with Studio Ghibli (My neighbor totoro, Ponyo) next
10:25
sprsk:  OKAY! next game is....the atamania series booooo
10:26
sprsk:  None of these games have come out in th estates yet, but Mchale and Sloan's mysterious story is a pretty good game if you can read Japanese.
10:27
sprsk:  So they are announcing sequels for all these games. For those who don't know, Sloan and Mchale is unlike other puzzle games in that they give you a story and then you have to pick out words and make connections to find out exactly what happened.
10:28
sprsk:  The other two atamania games are simple word and math puzzle games.
10:28
sprsk:  They are announcing the newest in the serie "Mystery Room" another puzzle game
10:30
sprsk:  The game is about these two guysPocho and Sly who are locked away in a "Mystery Room" where they search through unsolved mysteries based on the evidence they already haved.
10:31
sprsk:  It looks really neat. I'm curious. It shares some visual themes with Layton, very 50's european style
10:33
sprsk:  Next game, Cardboard Wars
10:33
sprsk:  They brought out a toy of the main robot "Achilles"
10:34
sprsk:  They are showing a new trailer. This game is for PSP by the way.
10:35
sprsk:  This game much like Inazuma 11 features anime FMV. You go around looking for other people to battle monsters with.
10:35
sprsk:  Er, robots, not monsters
10:36
sprsk:  Robots are highly customizable, arms, legs, engines heads.
10:37
sprsk:  The kids that star in the game control their robots with these cell phones. It pretty much is just pokemon with robots.

Actual battles look really cool a lot of dramatic animations for attacks. Seems like it's turn based.
10:38
sprsk:  I have to say it looks pretty fun.
10:39
sprsk:  Game has been delayed to somet time 2010
10:40
sprsk:  And of course, just like Inazuma 11 this is going to be a TV anime
10:41
sprsk:  They are also going to release with the help of Bandai makeable models (puramodels) of the robots from the game
10:44
sprsk:  So they are finished talking about the models, and are about to jump to the next game.
10:45
sprsk:  And it's actually not a game at all. It's their online content delivery service ROID,
They are showing a commercial for the cell phone version of it now.
10:47
sprsk:  They have cell phone versions o fLayton. and some tamogochi-like game where you take care of a Hostess. (kind of like a geisha without all the class)
10:49
sprsk:  They are going into details of this hostess game, which apparently is the most popular game on the service.

This is painful.
10:51
What game will they show next?
Dark Cloud 3
 ( 27% )
White Knight Chronicles 2
 ( 24% )
Layton for Wii
 ( 6% )
Dragon Quest 10
 ( 9% )
New IP
 ( 19% )
More Hostess Dress up time oh dear god.
 ( 15% )
10:52
sprsk:  Every one of these conferences has a moment like this. You can tell no one in the room cares.
10:53
sprsk:  It appears Cardboard Wars' English title is   "The Little Battlers"
10:54
sprsk:  They are announcing some new Roid games
Inazuma 11 in the future, what.
10:55
sprsk:  They play soccer   in air, looks like a quidditch match.
10:55
sprsk:  It's in full 3d, local multiplayer.
10:56
sprsk:  Also cell phone version of Little Battlers
I doubt any of this will leave Japan.
10:57
sprsk:  These are all Japanese Docomo Cell phone exclusives.
10:57
sprsk:  They still have 3 brand new games to announce.
10:58
sprsk:  Now they are talking about Roid for PC.
11:00
sprsk:  They are having a game design contest, you can win up to 2 million dollars
11:00
sprsk:  Okay, thus ends the roid part of the conference. Next up, games! right? RIGHT?!?!?
11:01
sprsk:  Okay next game is, okay they are having technical troubles lol.
11:02
sprsk:  Ninokuni, is the next game. Their collaboration with Studio Ghibli.
11:02
sprsk:  They are showing a trialer, beautiful animation some piano music.
11:03
sprsk:  Main chracter arrives in a world filled with dinosaurs and strange animals.
11:04
sprsk:  Showing in game footage now. Pretty decent looking for a DS game. Actually, really good looking for a DS game.
11:04
sprsk:  Battles seem to look very very similar to Dragon Quest turn based battles.
11:06
sprsk:  Comes out Spring 2010
11:07
sprsk:  The art style is Ghibli, so if you have seen My Neighbor Totoro or Ponyo (it just came out) that's what it looks like.

The female character in the game is voiced by Nagasa Masami.
Go Go Google search!
11:08
sprsk:  Oizumi You the voice of layton is voicing the character "Gyro"
11:09
sprsk:  The main character Oliver is voiced by a girl namd Tabe Mikako
11:10
sprsk:  Spring 2010 is for Japan. No date or anouncement for US release.
11:11
sprsk:  Music done by Hisaishi Joe, guy responsible for all of   the music from Hayao Miyazaki's movies
11:12
sprsk:  Game is going to be on a 4GB ROM, the biggest ever on the Nintendo DS. They did this so they can fit in all the orchestral music.
11:14
sprsk:  Now they are playing the theme song from Ninokuni Kokoro no kakera. Sung by "Mai" and written by Hisaishi Joe
11:14
sprsk:  Or not.

I guess they are low on time, so they are announcing a brand new game. FINALLY.
11:15
sprsk:  He's talking about how they have been making a lot of rpgs recently
11:16
sprsk:  They are claiming the new game is a new kind of RPG
Fantasy Live
11:17
sprsk:  Trailer starts with some line drawned flower, a butterfly feeds from it and flys off.
then the title Fantasy Life (sorry, not live)
11:17
sprsk:  Shows miscelanious characters doing diferent kinds of jobs, digging, chemistry, fishing, cooking.
11:18
sprsk:  Very short trialer, looked like a DS game. 2D looks like Mother 3.
Brownie Brown is involved.
11:18
sprsk:  Music by Nobuo Uematsu!
11:19
sprsk:  Uematsu is providing 21 songs for the game.
11:19
sprsk:  Apparently each kind of character has its own small ending and each ending has an original song done by uematsu. and all these contribute to the final ending of the game.
11:20
sprsk:  No platform announced.
11:22
sprsk:  They are tlaking about titles they announced last yera "Ushiro" a psp game about ghosts and Inazuma 11 Break (Wii version of Inazuma)

He said the games aren't canceled but aren't in a state they can show in public.
11:24
sprsk:  Looks like this year at TGS they are going to have a DS demo for Ninokuni th enew layton and the new inazuma for free for people who visit their booth.
They will also have a DVD with footage of the new games available. You can only get one or the other. They won't allow you to take both.
11:24
sprsk:  Fingers moving faster than brain, excuse the typos.
11:26
sprsk:  Hm? Conference beginning to die down. They claimed to have 3 new games but have only shown 1. It appears the other two weren't ready to show.
11:27
sprsk:  Crowd applauses, now they are going to let us listen to the ending theme to Ninokuni.
11:27
sprsk:  That's it folks! Yup! Nothing else to say I guess, thanks for tuning in!

I meant White Knight Chronicles 2.

The show just ended. Only DS/PSP/mobile stuff as expected but Inazuma Eleven Break is coming to the Wii!

Is that your wishful thinking? The only think they said about Inazuma Eleven Break is "Please wait a little longer". I hope it goes to PC ROID exclusively.

The dude is just assuming as well, it was not announced or anything.

I'm still wishing it's for PC ROID and if not that, I'm gonna wish for it to be on PS3 and/or 360.

By the way, those screens look better than Perfect Dark 0, Untold Legends and Disgaea 3.
