Sony: PS3 price cut not a reaction to slow sales


SCEE president Andrew House has said that Sony's decision to cut the price of the PS3 was not a reaction to slow system sales.

"We are aware that consumers are watching their euros and pounds more carefully than before and it may make a price reduction have potentially even more impact. But it would not be fair to say this is a reaction to current market conditions," he said.

Stressing the key role that the PlayStation Network will play in Sony's ten-year plan for the PS3, House also told the Financial Times that the company plans to make more social networking features available to owners of its flagship console.

"The goal is to move from a traditional short, toy-based life cycle to a longer, consumer electronics life cycle. The network allows us to give customers a better sense of value and continuous improvement," he said

So, they would have still cut the price had it been selling well? Doubtful.

I think it's a big croc. Why else would they decide to manufacture and release the low-cost slim and still sell it at a loss?

I think Sony cut the price in reaction to slow sales.

Kinda why the Wii hasn't lowered their price right?

And the fact that they are still lossing money on the PS3 Slim is reason enough to see that Slow Sales is not only a reason,

but the Main Reason.

I just find it funny the excuses big companies make these days, not just Sony, loads do it lol.

EVERYONE does it your right.

Nobody cuts prices when sales are robust and reaching expectations...that's totally disingenuous of him. Sony had an annual projection that there was ABSOLUTELY no way it could reach, without a price cut...so how does it make any sense that it had nothing to do with it...show me how Sony could have logical reach a sales estimate for the ps3 without a cut...
