Forums - Gaming - Is Activision Slowly Killing Guitar Hero ??

I think Activision may have realized that music games are fading so they are releasing everything they have in the pipeline sooner rather than later to maximize profits.

Of course, releasing everything is hastening the killing of this genre. It is going the way of dance and karaoke games -- from mainstream to niche.

EDIT ADD -- And it does not hurt that this strategy hurts a competitor (Rock Band).

My thoughts exactly.

I'm sure GH will still be around 5 years from now, but it'll sell comparible to what DDR does now and some other twist on music games will come to prominance.

Publishers unfortunately have a habit of doing this - strangle the life out of a franchise. Personally, I even think yearly updates for games is too much (unless it is a sports game I guess)...

I don't even think Sports games should be yearly. I just think they should come with updates yearly that are optional for download...That's just me though most likely.

When I think about it, even though I'm not even a fan of sports, if there was like one Madden per gen, I'd most likely buy it. It'd almost be like a must-have, since I know enough people who visit my place occasionally that would be more interested in playing it than say, Wii Sports. As it is now, though, it's completely pointless, because the game would feel old after just one year...

I guess it's too much to ask for. I wonder how high the sales might get, though.

It has for me. I've lost my interest in it.

me too !!

It was fun in the early beginning, but now it's just way too much. I never really did like guitar hero though. Definitely one of the most overrated video games.

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"
