A Japanese retailer claims to its shop will only be making ¥700 (US$7.40) on each PS3 Slim sold.

The reason for this, it seems, is buying the consoles from Sony and then selling the console at sticker price. We don't have any data other than this and do not know how the PS3 Slim compares to other newly launched hardware in Japan and aboard.

If anything, brand new hardware seems like a money pit — everyone is banking on software sales. We're confident as the PS3 Slim ages, it will become profitable for retailers and Sony. Be patient!

At least the consumers are getting good value for money then.

That's about the same as what most electronics retailers make with big ticket items I believe. It's also why a lot of companies like Best Buy sell warranty plans on those big ticket items.

So.... im going to ask the question...

Is sony making a margin on this? or selling it at or below cost?

This is the same way it has always been, f***ing kotaku and their biased media.
I worked in Gamestop when I was in high school 5 years ago ish, and even then we were not making any more on consoles.

I think they make plenty of profit on TVs... consoles are different because they make profit on accessories and software.

I'd bet TVs are sold at least at a 10% margin.

They have to sell a ton to have a healthy profit.

I thought it has always been this way?
